The stockholders have been reviewing these and I think they are ready to print.

I'm asking for everyone to take a final read through and look for issues. You will notice some rules were purposely left out to ease the learning curve for new players.

Going to have to suggest you add the Stoneskin rule.

The Stoneskin Rule: The Stoneskin Rule is a benchmark that is applied when determining if an effect can do damage (either normal melee/missile hits, spells or SAIs) to the target when it is magically protected, either by spells that provide saves or prevent units that are killed from going to the dead unit area (e.g. Open Grave). It is named after the most common spell that protects an army from damage – Stoneskin. This rule has one condition in its application: an army is the target of the damage, either from normal (melee/missile) means, spells or SAIs. Hence, if an individual unit in a magically protected army is specifically targeted with a
damaging effect, that unit (or units) does not receive the benefit of the saving effect from the spell and may suffer the damage. The exception to this rule is SAIs that state: “no saves (including those provided by spells)”. The damage from these army-targeting SAIs cannot be avoided by magical protection.




Also I don't know if this was an update or if it was missed.

New: Firebolt - Spell List: Basic Cost: 3
Target any enemy unit. Immediately inflict one point of damage on the target unit, which must generate saves against the damage. Multiple castings increase the effect or target another unit.

Old: Firebolt Casting Cost: 3 Spell List: Firewalker
Target any enemy unit. Immediately inflict one point of damage on the target unit. The target unit must generate saves against the damage. Multiple castings increase the effect or target another unit.

Went from Firewalker to Basic on the spell list.

I noticed that bringing units back from the DUA such as Water of Life and Spark of Life have been combined into just one color less spell. So i didn't know if that was a change on Firebolt or not.

huh... Good catch on firebolt! That is a mistake, it is supposed to still be a racial spell.

Ressurect dead was re-created as a colorless spell simply to save space, due to the limitations on the page size. Red & Blue elemental blast for firewalkers got the axe for the starter rules too.

As for the stoneskin rule I really can't say, thats up to Cliff... I do know that a lot of concepts like that have been left out of these basic rules so that everything can fit into a short booklet. The hope is once they get these rules they can move up to the full rulebook, and get all the advanced concepts.

Correct,

These are starter rules and intended to ease a player into the game. The full rules will differ slightly.

Some of the concepts has been either left out (like dragons having color at all) or specifically left ambiguous.

I figure that once someone asks a question which would require the stoneskin rule that they are ready to 'graduate' to the full rulebook.

I will consider the stoneskin rule, but we are very space constrained so I'm not hopeful.

Triopt don't fret i know very little. I just say what i think even if it is wrong since if it is then i learn something.

The Stone Skin rules really only gets used by a few spells;

Finger of Death Casting Cost: 4 Spell List: Basic
Target any enemy unit. Immediately inflict one point of damage to the target unit with no save possible. Multiple castings increase the effect or target another unit. (a no save kiss your unit good bye because only a few SAI's can stop it that i was surprised is a basic spell instead of an undead only)

Lightning Strike Casting Cost: 6 Spell List: Basic
Target any enemy unit. The target unit must immediately generate a save or be killed. Multiple castings target multiple units. (blue one shot big unit killer for cheap and I as surprised that this isn't a Coral Elves only spell)


Fearful Flames Casting Cost: 3 Spell List: Lava Elf
Target one health-worth of enemy units. Immediately inflict one point of damage on the target unit. The target unit must generate saves against the damage. If the unit saves against the damage, it must generate another save or immediately flee to the reserve area. Multiple castings increase the number of health affected and the damage inflicted.

Firebolt Casting Cost: 3 Spell List: Firewalker
Target any enemy unit. Immediately inflict one point of damage on the target unit. The target unit must generate saves against the damage. Multiple castings increase the effect or target another unit.

Since these are the only unit targeting damage spells that go around the Target army defense spells.

As long as i read it all correct i believe they do.

It makes Lava Elves and Fire Walkers the two most destructive Magic wise in my opinion races to go up against for spell options.

If you wanted to do away with the stone skin rule all that would be needed is adding (no spells that target an army can stop this damage) to those 4 spells and it should cover the mechanics unless i missed something.

Can't add that no saves added by spells work, or you completely nerf Earthen Armor. That works against all of those except Finger of Death.

yeah i had to correct it after

so instead

(no spells that target an army can stop this damage)

that doesn't work either since open grave gets around it still.

best I can think is

(This spell ignores Target Army Spells)

Eh brain need sleep...

don't forget that the stoneskin rule is for effects, so SAI's have to be considered too.

I see the SAI rule as more of a FAQ, a helper, than a real rule.
