Does anyone here have experience with building a CNC machine?
My goal would be to both cut shapes out of superthin wood as well as the ability to carve designs into thicker wood.
to give three very simple specific examples:
Cut the pieces for a dice tower out of thin paneling
Engrave a shallow design in that paneling
Carve an ID onto a wooden cube (ie custom dice) _________________ Multiplayer Champion Gencon11/Battlefest Champion(tied) GenCon10/World Champion GenCon07/National Champion Origins05/Intermediate Champion GenCon02/Novice Champion Origins99 |

I'm quickly building that experience at my new company. BTW, we have a laser cutter/engraver here at work. Not working directly with wood (mostly sheets of fiber), but some of the same things apply. _________________ You can never have too many dice.

I guess I'm not really that particular about the material.
It's an idea I've hinted at a lot over the years and is more of an overgrown hobby, but just like I have scroll saws and other tools I only use once a quarter... something like this would be neat to have for those times you need it.
if I had an easy way to make precision cuts... I can see myself doing puzzle boxes and gears and just fun stuff.
Keeping the cost low would be most important, but i could spend a bit of time and elbow grease on it.
it's becoming more mainstream these days, but being in GA I don't have access to a 'maker shop' that provides tools for prototyping. _________________ Multiplayer Champion Gencon11/Battlefest Champion(tied) GenCon10/World Champion GenCon07/National Champion Origins05/Intermediate Champion GenCon02/Novice Champion Origins99 |
