Reeser60504 honoured me with a challenge for a 30point duel, and I was more than happy to oblige! Lets see if I can shake off the dust.
Rules: 30 points standard construction, no dragonkin / items / minor terrains.
Turn Sequence: to be determined.

Assuming that my set-up is correct, I will roll for Starting Player/Terrain Choice
Looks like 5 to me. I honestly have no idea what I want to do if I win, so go ahead and let me know if I even get to choose. |

Turns out I needed to correct a small error where an Oak Lord was pretending to be a Eldar Dryad.
Also, that is one nice army composition - almost the polar opposite of mine. This should be interesting!

Frontier roll:
I lose the roll, so the choice is yours!
Also: let me know if it is more convenient for you to keep the board instead of me. I like keeping boards and wouldn't mind seeing how much time it takes to be boardkeeper, but I'm certainly not dead-set on it.

You're welcome to keep the board. I like to upload moves using the DD Inventory App and sometimes will load my half of the board for reference. Keeps me sharp, but the main responsibility is yours.
I'm going to choose to let you set the Frontier Terrain and I'll go first.
Rolling for My Home Terrain:
LOL. Magic 2
Exactly what I was hoping to avoid. I'll wait for your terrain rolls before taking my marches. |

The reason you have four Saves instead of 3 is b/c Racial Abilities kick in later in the calculation. Had one of those Maneuvers that you rolled been an actual Save or ID, the fourth subtraction for the Harpy would have counted (so to speak), correct?
Save Roll to Your Counter (heckuva nice roll by the way):
A whopping (and disappointing) 2 Saves. 7 Damage to Account for...
Kill off all but the Harpy and Hell Hound (and we'll pray for some week rolls by you.) |

Ninja-edit, because I forgot:
About the modifiers, I had to look that up because I wasn't sure. But yeah, subtraction modifiers go before racial conversion modifiers, so the maneuver results remained untouched (p.10).
Oof, that save roll could have used some highlands...

So I forgot about your counter-attack possibility at Your Home. I really should have waited to declare Retreat until after that considering how you decimated my force.
So, if you'll permit the retreat, the Harpy and Hell Hound make a hasty retreat to the Reserves.
If not (and that's fair), then I'll counter your roll.
Total: 0
Let me know how you want to proceed. |

It is no problem at all if you want to retreat - in fact, I purposefully left some room for situations like this. I prefer an enjoyable game much more than a hard-core need-to-win game. Funny enough, I was really considering not attacking you, as my Oak Lords' smites are useless if not rolled in pairs, and a single good roll could still wipe away my force.
However, with the opposition out of the way, my path is clear and simple: I move both terrains up to 7. There are no armies to fight, so I won't perform any actions.
Reserves: My Willowling at your home retreats to reserves.

For the hold...
Not enough...take the 8th sir.
Analysis: I should have taken the Terrain not the start. The Coral Maneuvers as Saves is huge. Initial set-up of 6s on the Terrains you occupied boded well for you. The 2 for my Home Army was awful, effectively wasting a March. Your counter-attack is what really shook things up. I probably should have abandoned My Home and come out towards yours, but you likely would have overwhelmed that in a Melee vs Missile battle.
If you're inclined, I'll rack up another group tonight for play tomorrow.
Thanks. |

A win for team Avatar! I would have loved to have rolled a bit more dice though, this game was almost over before it started.
| Quote: | | I probably should have abandoned My Home and come out towards yours, but you likely would have overwhelmed that in a Melee vs Missile battle. |
Yep, my thoughts exactly. In fact, I think the first few choices you made were absolutely the right choices, they just happened to not work out.
First turn was sensible. Your army will almost certainly lose in the long run, as it cannot keep up with the endurance race of resurrection magic. The melee attack was pretty sensible as well. My army had more saves, so it was a matter of striking first or not striking at all. And your monsters have some great offensive SIAs.
In fact, the only thing I might have done differently is exactly what you said in the quote: amassing all your forces in reserves at the end of your first turn while leaving all the aquatic terrains at 6. Just like now, I would have not have anything to do for actions. The only options for me would then have been to:
- roll both terrains to 5 - extends the game length but is not great, as your army loves missiles.
- roll one terrain to 5 and one to 7 - terrible for me, as you'll just grab the 7 and take it to 8th.
- roll both to 7 so you get an 8th and I get the other - not great either.
Still, the choice you went for was sensible and I think you played great. I would love to play another game! The army I used army was an old-edition army designed for burial-magic, one that I still had lying around, so I'll do my best to create something a bit more special for the next game. Looking forward to our next game! Tomorrow is a national holiday here though, so I'll probably wont have much time. Saturday I'll be all-action again.

Timing is fine. I'll likely put together an army and get it posted. The weekend will be hit or miss for me as I have a lots of household things that need doing, but I should be able to get a few throws in.
How about making it 36 plus either Items or Minor Terrains, your pick?

The new rules for minor terrains have made me really curious about them again, so I'd love to give those a spin. My new army is also close to being completely finished, so I'll probably post that tonight.
