If I hit a 3 pt. undead unit with Fearful Flames. They fail the initial save roll. There happens to be a 2 pt. undead unit in the affected players DUA. The player intends to take advantage of that stepped damage, what happens?
Does the undead step down first, then the replacement unit roll or be buried?
Does the 3 point must first save or be buried before the option of stepped damage can occur?
The logic I understand is that stepped damage comes from the DUA. But dead unit rolling or be buried is now pointing to the BUA.
EDIT: Or is it that the 3 pt. then fails the initial save. Then fails the bury save. But can still step down to the 2, even though the 3 is now buried? _________________ Will

Assuming you cast 3 Fearful Flames on a 3-health Undead unit, then that unit has to generate at least 1 save or it will be killed by the damage (see section on "Damage VS Killed".
Key here is from the Stepped Damage: "When an Undead unit is killed you...". So the Stepped Damage takes effect BEFORE the unit is placed into the DUA. From the introduction on Buried: "Dead units may be buried. Buried units are removed from the Dead Unit Area and placed in the Buried Unit Area.". So before something can be buried, it has to be placed into the DUA. Stepped Damage will happen first. So to use your example:
The 2-health unit is taken from the DUA and put back into the army. The 3-health unit is placed into the DUA. That 3-health unit then has to make another roll for saves. If it fails to generate a save, it is buried and placed into the BUA. _________________ You can never have too many dice.

Thanks as always Pint.
Random question about Fearful Flames..... The wording does not specify a save roll on the initial damage. Yes, there is a save or be buried, but is it not also save or be killed? _________________ Will

Read the section on damage. It covers everything about damage. We did that rather than having to explain damage 100 different places in the rules. _________________ You can never have too many dice.
