|
|
The list has been pretty quiet the last couple of days, so I figured it's time to start the tease for the new starters. This is the first of what I hope is a series of questions about Sealed Box strategy with the new starters.
The very first question: Sanctioned tournaments will probably allow choice of starters, within certain restrictions (like the mix on hand). Given an open choice of starter sets, which would you choose, and why? Remember, you have no control over what is in the set, other than which races are paired up.
Your choices are:
Coral Elf/Lava Elf
Dwarf/Goblin
Amazon/Swamp Stalker
There may be different mixes available in the future, but I doubt any others will be released prior to GenCon (and I have fairly good reasons for thinking that ). So let the discussion begin! _________________ Steve "DDice" Braun

My first choice would be Dwarf/Goblin. They have a color of magic in common, have decent saves with and without spells, and the units of both races have similar strenghts.
Second choice would be Amazon/Swamp Stalker. Amazons save reasonably well and are good at melee, while Swamp Stakers save well, melee well, and have a good selection of spells.
Last choice would be Coral Elf/Lava Elf (yeah, lets put two races that can't save and have no color of magic in common into our random army - great idea!! ). _________________ "Everything Brad said is correct." - Chuck Pint |

I hope they are still going to be part of the release | Not the first release. They will be in a second release. When will they come out? It depends. And that's the best answer you're going to get right now. _________________ You can never have too many dice.

well the Beholder/Sprite Swarm Combo sounds nice
the elves could have that mix
I have always wished for a Leopard Rider in all the
Sealed Box tournaments that I played in,
and the Leopard Rider always arrived.
It might be hard to turn down a choice of Goblins. |

Are the new starters going to have different paint, akin to the Frostwing & Scalder reprints? _________________ D Scott O'Brien

Note: this is the third question in as many different topics about the ink colors. Go to here for discussion of ink colors. _________________ You can never have too many dice.

Actually, I can think of one reason to try an elven starter: Lightning Strike. If using 24h out of 30h, you'll have to use at least one monster. (If all 30h, there will have to use both.) The ability to take out a 4h unit in a small game with a spell might be worth the other risks involved. It's going to be very difficult to resurrect 4h units in a Sealed Box game (unless you are extremely luck and pull a Troll). It will be hard to keep elves alive, though, unless you can choose both terrains. _________________ Steve "DDice" Braun
