|
|
Time to get the Sealed Box Strategy discussion going again. (Kind of brings back memories of "The Warlords" in The Dragonmaster.)
Next question: Given the option (which you never will, because the format will be set either by SFR or the tournament organizer, but let's dream here), would you prefer to play Sealed Box with a 30h army, which is all the units in the box, or with a 24h army, where you can "cut" 6h to change the mix somewhat? And why would you prefer that format?
NOTE: You aren't voting on the way SB will be run-that's up to the SFR board- but who knows, we might pay a little attention to what you say.
NOTE 2: Isn't SB a great abbreviation for a tournament event? _________________ Steve "DDice" Braun

The first thing to consider about playing 30 health is that there will be one more dragon in play.(by rule)
Being a random selection of dragons and terrains..
you may have no chance to cast any dragons, and also you may provide more dragons for an opponent.
This may all be True,
enter the great neutralizer....the ivory dragon
if any player brings an ivory dragon then the dragon issue is resolved.
I like the traditional 24 health challenge,
but the box has 30 health, so playing out of the box,
and letting whatever you get be the detriment,
seems like a good way to play. |

I prefer the idea of 24h. Moves the focus slightly from luck to skill, which to my mind is always a good thing.
Cheers,

I say Stay at 24 and use the other 6 to side board between matches. That and it the extra 6 gives you more to trade with to get what you want and need for your collection. _________________ Got to love wolves, overwelming numbers, act as a team, Nature ready made army.

I would like to see the terrains be locked in play,
since in a tournament, you tend to know what the other players are using,
secrecy in army construction only lasts for the first round,
after that,an opponent could manipulate their terrains based on your exposed army.
By locking in the terrains, the stage is set and strategy must be employed.
Loose lips sink ships it's an old Navy saying
meaning if you know where the ships are ,they are easier to sink
and if you know what your opponents army is ,it can be easier to defeat.
Example,
if I know I'm playing against Goblins,
I would not bring a swampland,
but if I was forced to play with the terrains I originally choose,
I would have to find a way to play in the swamp. |

Then maybe we need to change how the army setup is done. If each player as they sat down was required to state which starter set they have, then every match will be equal (first vs the rest). Then let the players pick terrains based on what their opponent has. I have no problem with "side boarding" all the dice not currently in use, and changing your entire army setup (including terrains, dragon, etc.) from game to game.
After all, the whole idea is for the winner to be the most skilled player, not the luckiest one. Not that I'd turn down any good luck I get.... _________________ You can never have too many dice.

Sounds Good Chuck,
Can players keep their unused terrains dragons and units undisclosed?
(To use as a secret weapon) |

The idea is that they don't have to detail every die in the starter. All they have to disclose is which starter do they have. Since all starters have one of each of the 4 terrain colors, they do not have to state which they are using until the armies are revealed on both sides. So you'll never know for sure what your opponent has until everything is shown.
However, I bet after the first round, everyone will know the lucky guy that pulled a Troll out of his Dwarf/Goblin starter... _________________ You can never have too many dice.
