I know this has been asked before and I'm sorry to repeat the question.
Wall of thorns:
Target any terrain not already under the effects of a Wall of Thorns spell or currently at the 8th face. Until the end of
your next turn, any army making a maneuver attempt that results in changing the terrain face causes damage to itself
equal to the total health-worth of units in the army. Roll the army; each melee result reduces the damage by one point.
Multiple castings target multiple terrains.
This does not say a combination roll is being made for saves and melee so is there just one melee-avoidance roll (melee to damage reducing roll) and then the army takes full damage of what is left? or are there two rolls, first the melee roll, then a saving roll against the damage that is left? should the line say "equal to the total health-worth of units in the army that the army does not get to roll saves for."? _________________ Bryan Brauser

The army takes damage equal to the sum total health of the units in the army. Roll the army. Each melee result negates one point of damage - no other results generated will reduce the damage the army takes. Save results count for nothing against a Wall of Thorns.
It's a pretty nasty spell (ask Chuck about going thru a Wall of Thorns while your army has a Blizzard spell on it ). _________________ "Everything Brad said is correct." - Chuck Pint |

Take a close look at the section on avoidance rolls. Also read the section on damage.
Also as a general rule, if the spell or effect doesn't state clearly that more than one result will have any affect, then only the results stated are used. On the other hand, if the spell or effect causes damage, and there is nothing about something other than saves reducing the damage, then simply a normal save roll is called for. _________________ You can never have too many dice.
