I am a rules lawyer. the purely functional, logic of a game system is natural to me.
What is not natural is creative wording and artistic skills. Dragon Dice Duels is part dice game, part roleplaying game. Naturally anyone can ignore the rules of either just like they do for any existing RPG system, but there is still merit in it.
Thus, I'm calling out for anyone artistic who might want to develope the 'feel' of the realm of Esfah. It's geography, its layout, its people, their family units, their government, their life cycle, etc.. Everything that is part of the RPG part of Duels and not just the core functionality and rules.
Naturally I also need people like myself (I know a few who will jump in) because 8 eyes are better than 3. I just hope we don't nitpick eachother to death.
Am I alone here, or who's with me? |

I'll probably regret this later (when you start beating on me for not actually participating in the discussions on a regular basis because I don't have the time) but I'd like to participate in this effort. Besides, since as far as I know I've got the only maxed out pure magician out there at this point, I kind of feel obligated to put in my two cents. Plus it gives me an excuse to roll five magi at one time. _________________ John Koslow |

I'm working on Esfah 3D based on Dave Papay's Map of the Known World
I think Duels might be a good place to incorporate Esfah 3D.
I'm going to continue working on Esfah 3D.(it's still a work in progress)
I can tailor this project to Duels specifications,
for instance,
when zooming in on the overview map , you would then be immersed into
a much higher detailed environment.
(Showing a first person persective of Esfah)
If Duels needed something to be added to Esfah 3D,
then I could add it on the first person perspective view.
Without going too far overboard...I'll just wait to hear from you.

I don't know if you would consider my Vampire a pure magician or not, but she's a fairly high level for those on the 'evil' side of the fence.
Plus you may remember many of the rules that I've forgotten.
I'm trying to see if I can keep Mark involved and get him posting to this forum. it's his brain child and he could keep us on track. |

John how would you (or anyone else who remembers how) like to do an online or email duel to remind ourselves of the small details we might've forgotten? |

just a footnote:
Esfah 3D could be used to create a "printable playing grid" for the dice.
Also maybe some pictures or cards that the DM would display during the journey could be printable too.
I'll go back to my cave now.................... |

Footnote to a Footnote:
I like that Idea. I have only had the game for about a week and I have already been working on a campaign for Dragon Dice. You could take the printable map and have it divided up into territories with, each with its own numeric value. The values signifying the importance of the particular terrain. Lets just say that at the end of a campaign year you end with four territories under your control. these territories have a total point value of seven. So, you get to "purchase" seven HP worth of units to add to your existing armies. I am going to play-test my campaign next week with a group of friends, and it should be interesting. I have done this type of thing before with several games including some of my own design, and I think dragon dice will play fairly well.

I completely forgot, but if you need help figuring out government, social structures, or anything else for that matter, I'm your man. I've been a role player most of my life, and made my first RPG at the age of ten. Plus, I love to do that kind of stuff. Just look at my previous post, I haven't even played a game of dragon dice yet, and I'm making my own game out of it. I just like to create. I'm also extremely artistic, so if anything needs to be put to paper, I can handle it. Well let me know what you think, and we can go from there.

This idea is based on a Sega CD game:
The hexagon grid is used to maneuver,
so some units can move futher per turn than others...
you get to move X amount of units....
each unit starts out as a common...
as they battle, (you battle a unit in front of you)
the units become stonger...(if they don't get killed)
so the common unit would be promoted thru battle.
Some units like the Hydra can travel on the water hexagons...
others would have to travel on ground.
It's called Dark Wizard sega CD. |

Hi Cliff,
I'm willing to get involved in the "evolution" of Dragon Dice Duels into a formal set of rules. I'm not volunteering to engineer some "flavor text" or "weave a world" as a background to the rules, but if this gaming system could use something like an "adventure map", I've been toying with a role-playing variant that would utilize "adventure maps" with alternative paths and "event squares" of varying complexity. The hex-based system Jim mentioned could also work quite well for either a specific adventure, or an entire world.
I'm still involved with the boardgame I've been developing (which I showed at GENCON 2008), so my attention will be divided at times... _________________ Daniel Burkley

Thanks Daniel, I'll be starting soon and duels is generic enough that it can be used with a grid system or not. _________________ Multiplayer Champion Gencon11/Battlefest Champion(tied) GenCon10/World Champion GenCon07/National Champion Origins05/Intermediate Champion GenCon02/Novice Champion Origins99 |

Campaign mode: grid
hex maps with treasure to discover...watch out for the Dragon Horde
Head to Head: (Battle Dome)
no grid needed
here a character can be built up in many ways...and then interjected into the campaign later |

To keep the Duels as an ongoing battle...
and to keep your rating...
a player may purchase a teleport orb.
The teleport orb may be used if a character is about to be killed...
or they simply have to go.
The battle ends...
however any rating points may still apply.
the teleport orb can be kept secret...
and only one orb can be in their arsenal at anytime...
so once you teleport away,
you'll need to find another one for future battles.
If you don't have a teleport orb,
and you need to leave a battle,
a continuance marker is put into play.
You may still fight a separate Duel in hope to gain a teleport orb, before
restarting from your continuance marker.
OK just throwing ideas out their. |
