This is an idea I had in a game last week and it's here if SF or anyone else wants to use it.
We were having problems remembering what spells had what on them (hey, we're getting old) and I thought it would be great if you had coloured (red, green, gold, blue and black) poker chips with the spell name of the spells printed in the centre. E.g. a red poker chip with ASH STORM in the centre and perhaps a spell points cost '3' above and rules brief where feasible '-1 to rolls' below.
They'd be useful and potentially look and feel pretty cool in play.
Obviously you don't need to have chips for all spells, some spells would require more chips than others as the effects are stackable. Sets wouldn't be random, but could be sold in the five colours.
Anyway, there you go, that's my idea. It's may not be practical, or cost effective, but I'm guessing poker is a big enough business where decent custom chips aren't impossible to get made. But I'm keeping an eye out for a set of good quality poker chips with all five colours in to have a go myself.
All the best

many people have found many different solutions to this issue.
Some use post-it notes and just throw them away.
Some have large numbers of business cards with the spells written on them.
it is something that we've looked at off and on through the years. maybe it'll happen maybe it won't, but good ideas, even if someone's already thought of them |

Heh, fair enough.
If I manage it. I'll let people know what they add to the game. |

I have a set of poker chips in red, blue, green, black-and white. You could use the white chips for gold spells. Of ocurse, these colors do come in handy as tokens in a Magic CCG game. _________________ Steve "DDice" Braun

Hey there,
Yup! Those seem to be the basic colours you get in poker chip sets (Black, Green, Red, Blue and White), but I have found some in the UK (where I live) that have the five colours I need, though white would fit in well enough. I've bought 'em, just waiting for them to arrive! I have some other uses for the chips, but Dragon Dice was one of my excuses to buy them.
I've made a list of the spells that last long enough to deserve them. It's between about 6-12 for each colour. I'll print some circular labels off and add them on as I use the chips, rather than second guess what'll get used. I notice I can get gloss or transparent labels too, but I think I'll go with what I have rather than spend more if possible.
As only the top chip needs say the correct spell if a spell is stacked, and you aren't going to use that many, I reckon a set of 25 of each colour should keep most people going and you could certainly get away with less if it's just for yourself.
But we'll see, it could be a really dumb pointless idea. Though as I kept forgetting I had stoneskins in my last game, I think they'll be a big help. They should at least look quite nice, and make a satisfying chinking noise in play.
All the best

There is a file on the SFR website at: http://www.sfr-inc.com/dragon_dice_rules.htm that pints all the spells out on business card stock. Anyone can download and use it. It's the last link on the main part of the page. _________________ You can never have too many dice.

Thanks for that Chuck, the Spell List is particularly useful.
My chips have arrived, and I have rather quickly knocked up some 'spell chips'. They could be done a bit better with coloured ink etc, but for the moment, these are the examples. I simply used 25mm round labels printed and placed into the centre of the chips. Having set up and printed the labels, I only need to apply them as the chips are needed. I was quite pleased with myself for finding a nice 'dice' related chip design, but I've since noticed it everywhere.
An example of a Green Spell Chip:

Some chips next to a dwarf army (black, blue and green chips there just for comparison). With Spell Chips you can use chips to single out which units have spells specifically on them such as Burning Hands. Also, stacking spells is easy to do such as the Stoneksins on the army.

The Spell Chip format is quite simple
2 Gold
Stoneskin
(BCT)
With the name of the spell, the cost and colour and when the spell ends. The cost and colour is just used to balance out the other text really.
I tried putting brief Spell Rules on, but that was a bit much. With the one page spell sheet it shouldn't be too much of a problem. The idea f the chips is just to help you remember what spells are where.
I came up with a quick list of abbreviations to say when a spell ended:
TFC - Last until the Terrain Face is Changed
DOG - Lasts for Duration of Game.
BCT - Lasts until the Beginning of the Caster’s next Turn.
ECT - Lasts until the End of the Caster’s next Turn.
BNT - Lasts until the Beginning of Next Turn.
U - Lasts until used to Generate a Save.
UMi - Lasts until used to generate a Save or a non SAI Missile result.
UMe - Lasts until used to generate a Save or a non SAI Missile result.
US - Lasts until used to generate a Save or a non SAI Save result.
Anyway, there you go. Mission accomplished. People can use, adapt or completely ignore the idea as they see fit. If SFR ever published any official ones, I'd like a copy
Cheers

The Chip idea is good,
but the spell's descriptions are not written on the chip,
I would rather use the spell cards.
I have used colored glass stones as markers,
ie red ones for ash storm...
yellow for stoneskin...
the glass stones work too...
maybe a combination of both ideas
Chips for stackable spells,
stones for accumulative spells

Thanks Jim.
No descriptions, but then, if everyone has a list its probably easier to refer to that than read the cards.
As I say, each to their own, I guess what works for each person is best.
