Has anyone ever tried to play DD via a 'draft' setup? The only down side is that it could get expensive.
i.e. get a case (or each player brings kickers) and dump it all in the middle of the table. Take turns picking one die at a time to build an army.
Alternately has anyone ever tried 'sealed kicker'? Similar to sealed starter, but you just grab a dragon, 2 terrains and 3 sealed kickers. |

| I don't remember the name of the event, but we had a draft event at ShoreCon in 2001. Basically, the coordinator of the event (Scott Ostrander) dumped piles of dice in different spots on the table, and we chose a certain number of each type (common, uncommon, rare) until we reached the number of health for that category. It was interesting in that each player focused on certain races, but we also sometimes drafted dice "away" from others. The games were fun, in that the pools were set up so that you couldn't load up on one type of die, so you needed a more balanced strategy to win. I don't recall the event exactly, despite the fact that I think I won it (and I'm not even sure about that!). |

The only person I play with is my nephew, so I don't play in tournaments. The closest thing to a draft that we use in choosing our dice is randomly piccking our races. We have a lot of dice for each race, my smallest collection being 60hp of Treefolk, which believe it or not, seems so limited.
Sometimes we put one dragons of every color into a bag and randomly pick one each. We each then get to choose a race that contains that color. Amazons are eligible on any color but black and undead are eligible only if black is picked.
Another thing we do is put TWO dragons of each color in a bag and pick TWO colors each. Amazons are used on any couble that is not black. Only by choosing black/black would one be able to use undead. The color combo decides the race we use. It's obvious, but here's an example: I pick out a red dragon, and my nephew picks out a blue one. I then pick out a black one, and he picks out another blue one. I would be Lava Elves, and he would be Amazons.
If we want to use two races each, we then continue and choose two more dice each. Obviously, this system makes getting an undead army less likely than most, and Amazons a greater chance, but hey, it's all in good fun. |

I have to say that I like the idea of a draft game a lot for tournaments.
If I could propose an affordable, but possibly tedious way to do it:
People could bring their dice and a list, with either the number of health points for the tournament(plus the maximum necessary dragons and terrains), or some number larger than the tournament's health points(but not larger, maybe 1.33*HP.)
They submit their lists along with the dice they brought, the list is checked quickly(just rares and monsters, in the interests of time and sanity), then all players sit down and go around in order choosing one die at a time. They can even pick dragons or terrains at this time, making the strategic choice of even the most basic dice important. That person with the "best" dice won't have any inherent advantage, and when the game is over, everyone gets their dice back(according to their list.)
No one has to spend any large amount of money, and for a slight variation(and to stoke sales), these draft tournaments could involve everyone buying one kicker pack, all opening the kicker packs at the table, and drafting in the same way as before(each player would have only brought exactly the HP' worth of dice necessary for the game, and the added kickers would provide variance.) There could even be a requirement that the kicker dice must all be drafted first. When the game is over, the players all get to "draft" the kicker pack dice for keeps, in order of finish. |

hi cliffwiggs
The draft game we are playing online called
Mirror Draft Duel might be a way to play a real "Draft" game
The requirement would be to bring a complete set of Dragon Dice.
People who have a set might really like this idea.
One die at a time you draft the same army.
We are using "no repeats" also |
