I'm probably just over thinking this but...

Simple version: Does a group monster reroll its ID on a dispel roll?

Complex version: What type of roll is the Dispel roll (or does it matter)? There is specific text in the Avoidance roll section that clarifies that group ID's reroll on Avoidance rolls. Is this considered a Dispel Avoidance roll? Additionally, The Group ID description (not in the advanced rules BTW its only in the racial booklets) says 'on any roll' and 'any means any'

I'm thinking that the answer is yes, but I've never seen this happen in a game so I thought I'd clarify.

i would think that you can. dispell rolls should be treated as avoidance rolls in that you are "avoiding" magic. just my opinion though, den

Ok, so there are no die that is a group monster and has Dispel Magic. Dispel rolls are not avoidance rolls. They are a special group all unto themselves. Dispel Magic is a conditional roll. Here's the glossary entry for this:

Quote:
Conditional Resolution – The effect of these SAIs are resolved if and only if some condition is met. The unit possessing this SAI is rolled and if the Conditional SAI comes up then the effect is negated, otherwise nothing happens and turn sequence continues.

So even if something else comes up during a conditional roll, if it isn't what you're rolling for (Dispel Magic, Rise from Ashes, TSR/SFR logo), then nothing happens and play goes on.

Clear?

There is one: Will O'Wisp (according to the scalder racial booklet online)

Ah I didn't read far enough in the rule book.

Thats what I get for using search to try to find an answer instead of reading the entire rulebook (but I only had 15 minutes while I was on my break)

Dang, Scalders must be the only rule book I don't have the newest doc file for. I read the doc file rather than the pdf from Will. Since that pdf also formed the rules booklet that went into the Scalders reprint, it's the latest rules. So yes, the Will o'Wisps is a group monster. But it still does not get a reroll on a Dispel Magic roll if it's ID comes up.

There's always gotta be one exception in the rules!

Per the Scalder's racial rulebook (http://www.sfr-inc.com/scalders.pdf) there are two group monsters. The Web Birds and the Will o' Wisps. Of the two, Will o' Wisps is the one with Dispel Magic on it. My first answer was based on looking at an older version of the rules where only the Web Birds were a group monster. Sorry about that.
