Just curious about who's planning to be at Origins this year. It took me four years to be able to work it out to get to a major con, and I hope to meet a lot of people there.

So far, I know Mike D. (since he's running the DD events), my two boys and I, Joe and his son, and probably at least one other Coloradan. Who else is even thinking about it at this time?

I will be at Origins this year. I go every year since I'm in Ohio.

What a great con! Tons of different games. If you haven't been to a major con before, you'll be impressed.

It was maybe 4 years ago when I was first introduced to DD at Origins. Bought two bags full different races and started looking over rules. Now I have hundreds. I haven't played against anyone that knows what they are doing. Crying or Very sad I've done the solo rules that I found on the net.

I was very happy to see the movement forward with the game. I'm very much looking forward to some games at Origins so I can have a better understanding of rules and strategy.

We're loading up the covered wagon and heading east for a weekend of gaming. I was at Origins '02 and had a blast prowling for out of print treasures.

We're going to do some CW Campaign games there, and you're welcome to track us down and join in for a game or three. We'll be the old guys creating chaos and mayhem wherever we go.

Thanks for the invite. I look forward to it, but.....what's a CW campaign? Embarassed

I hope this isn't a foolish question that every DD player knows already!

I do some historical miniature stuff, so all I think when I see CW is civil war.

The Chill Wind (CW) Campaign is an ongoing series of battles following a storyline (which changes as the war is fought) based on Joe Joiner's story Chill Wind. It is set in the post-novel era of Cyrea (the "Western Hemisphere" of Esfah), and involves the intrigues and battles of the Age of Vigilance. We play it online, but are looking forward to getting in a few FTF games while at Origins.

You can find out more about it in the topic "Themed Game Summaries," and at http://members.aol.com/DDiceRC/CWChome.html. We're working on a few scenarios now, and we'd be happy to have anyone join us for a game at Origins.

(Ironically, given your post, our next storyline follows a civil war among the Selumari and Amazons, with a nasty surprise for both sides.)

I'm positive I'm going to Gencon, but am still up in the air about Origins. If someone could give me some good "inside info" on hotels, (such as that off-the-beaten-path, cheap-but-clean motel/hotel), that might seal the deal for me. And I'm looking forward to having my lunch handed to me in some games of DD at either show. Smile

Thanks for the link to Chill Wind! It's a great read. I'm only on part 4 and love it. Very Happy

OK, I know things can change over time, so I'm wondering what to expect next week. How many people are definitely coming to Origins? How many think they might? And how many DD events do you plan to play in?

I can tell you that Robert, Jonathan, and I are definitely coming, and we're playing in Single Race, Battlefest, and No Magicians. (We have to leave too early on Sunday to play in the WC-style event, and we have commitments to (gulp!) another game for two events.)

So far I have signed up for the beginners on Thursday at noon and the intermediate constructed Fri at noon. I need to get a better grasp of the game and pick up some tactics. I may sign up for others if time allows.

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone at Origins. Columbus has a number of good hotels around the beltway (I used to go there at least every 6 months for work). The west side (off I-70) has a Best Western and a Red Roof Inn (I think or maybe it was a Motel 6) There was a Ramada Inn on US Route 40 on the west side of town. The east side (where I'm staying in a Holiday Inn) has all the usual suspects (again off I-70). I don't know where you all are coming from, but compared to East coast traffic, Columbus traffic is easy, YMMV Very Happy . I seem to remember seeing Knight's Inns as well. Since it's been awhile since I've been there, I suggest checking the chain's web sites and look for locations just off I-70 or US Route 40. Also, Columbus has some good German food, if anyone is interested.

Later,

Speaking of hotels, for those who are willing to share that information, where are Origins attendees staying? Like I said, I will be staying at the Holiday Inn-Columbus Center (Priority Club points, you know), along with my two sons and Joe Joiner and his son. Anybody else staying close by?
