I would like to thank Brad and John for their time and effort to put on the Dragon Dice events at GENCON 2008. I'm glad I could return the favor on one occasion by moderating the "Sealed Pack" event so you guys (and Chuck) could participate.
It was my pleasure to meet Chuck, Pat, John, Brad, Cliff, Tiffany, and Jim, as well as all the other players. I enjoyed every game I played with each of you (although I never faced Tiffany across the tabletop). I learned a lot of "magic tricks" from the various blue-colored magicians that many players relied on. Chuck's were rather sneaky and full of surprises. Jim's blew by me faster than I could bat an eyelash. Pat's summoned those viscious blue/black Dragons that literally ate every last die in my army during one game. John K's and John M's were just plain nasty with Lightning Strikes (John M's took out 5 Goblin Riders/Trolls at one clip). Trolls can forgive a lot of "sins", but maybe it's time I started using magicians...
The last time I attended GENCON was 1999. I'll have to see about attending a bit more frequently... _________________ Daniel Burkley

Jim beat Chuck in Battlefest? That might qualify as one of the bigger upsets in GenCon history.
And for those who thought that having a 13-year-old National champion was no big deal, now it turns out he beat 2 World Champions (2006 and 2008) to win it. Maybe I should get Jon out to GenCon next year... _________________ Steve "DDice" Braun

Actually Jim and I did not play each other in Battlefest. Jim won 4 straight games however. I had two straight wins, a draw (to John K) and a loss on time (to Dan).
Jim at some point, I'd like to take on your army. I still think I could beat it.... _________________ You can never have too many dice.

Okay, Chuck and Jim will play a Battlefest match for their first game on saturday while the rest of us play the month's format. After that they can join us in the second round. |

Just like you said Cliff and I could not split the Championship...
we have to battle it out....
then neither should we play an after the event round...
but anyone else who wants to challenge you with the army...have at it.

I got 4th in battlefest, but if I had beat Jim, then I would've had first (rules are wierd).
Anyway, Jim had me beat before my first turn. Based on the way the terrains came up I had no chance to do anything. It took him two more turns to finish my off however. now if the terrains had come up differently I would've had a chance.
Oh and Dan, the only way you can play MissTiffany is if you convince her to give you a demo she doesn't like to play competitively or against 'bad winners'. _________________ Multiplayer Champion Gencon11/Battlefest Champion(tied) GenCon10/World Champion GenCon07/National Champion Origins05/Intermediate Champion GenCon02/Novice Champion Origins99 |

One thing I noticed at GenCon that I had not noticed at DEXCON was that many players had customized play-aids for their Dragon Dice games (as did I). These ranged from purely functional to very colorlful and/or imaginative.
Many (but not all) players used "place-holders" for their dice to represent the Campaign, Home, and Horde armies. John K's were very customized and colorful, with what appeared to be original artwork. Cliff used Dragon Dice artwork as a starting point for his customized place-holders (which also included those for the DUA, BUA, Reserve and Summoning Pool). Cliff (oops, I meant Chuck) and Pat used white plastic lids with printed labels. I used a word processor to label card stock, using matching colors with the army I played with (black on yellow, in this case - but no artwork). I took some pictures during the convention that show some of these creative play-aids(and if I can figure out how to display them in the forum, I'll do so).
Players used either the Dragon Dice shields or the lid from the Battle Box as a screen to set up their armies at the start of a match.
I appeared to be the only one to bring a round dice-rolling tray for tossing my dice in, which I placed off to the side of the opposing armies. The tabletop worked just as well for everyone else, with only a couple or rare occasions where the dice would "wander" off the table. _________________ Daniel Burkley

piMaster, do you still have the tournament sheets which show who played who and the result of every game?
I'd like to use that as seed data to do some test analysis... _________________ Multiplayer Champion Gencon11/Battlefest Champion(tied) GenCon10/World Champion GenCon07/National Champion Origins05/Intermediate Champion GenCon02/Novice Champion Origins99 |

I know Chuck is very busy, so I can wait an indefinate amount of time, but I would like to get these eventually. I dl'ed some tournament ranking software and want to see what it does with a small amount of real data. _________________ Multiplayer Champion Gencon11/Battlefest Champion(tied) GenCon10/World Champion GenCon07/National Champion Origins05/Intermediate Champion GenCon02/Novice Champion Origins99 |

I'd like to use that as seed data to do some test analysis... | I've probably got the ones from the last couple of years. (I know I have last year's because they were still in my bag when I went this year and I haven't unpacked that.) I'll try and see what I can find, although with my wife's hip replacement surgery on Tuesday, it may be some time before I get around to this. _________________ John Koslow |

Just a friendly reminder to Chuck and John about past historical Gencon data, including who played who.
I still want to set this up via a Chess ranking system and see what it looks like.
if its good I'll add it to the website. _________________ Multiplayer Champion Gencon11/Battlefest Champion(tied) GenCon10/World Champion GenCon07/National Champion Origins05/Intermediate Champion GenCon02/Novice Champion Origins99 |
