Hi.

I know that charge is no longer available according to the rules.
But i have a question about it in context to counter.

When an army roll for a charge attack, the defending army go to roll a melee avoidance roll, right?
Now the defending army rolls Counter SAIs. Are they resolved immediately such as they where thrown while a save roll against a skirmish attack?

You are correct it is no longer a rule, so take whatever ruling you want, but I seem to recall that Charging consisted of two combination rolls. The attacking army did a melee/maneuver roll and the defending did a melee/save roll.

but its been so long that some of the current termniology like melee avoidance wasn't used back then.

Under the old rules, a Counter that was rolled for the defensive did much the same as it does now. Hits back on the the charging army, and saves for the defensive army. The difference was that Counter did not do the melee back at the charging army before anything else. It was simply added into the total melee that the defensive army generated.
