Is it too early to be thinking about GenCon 2009? I'm trying to plan for it now, but the main thing that's worrying me is the housing costs. This will make or break the trip. I was reading some posts on the GenCon community site and I see that I'm not alone in this situation. Does anyone have any helpful hints/tips, best places to stay, etc. ?
Any help would be most appreciated!
Thank You for your time,

If you stay in town...(Hotel linked to RCA Dome) it's like $400 a night...
So on the outskirts of town...
it's about $150 for a good deal and not a dive.
There is a parking Garage next to the RCA dome...
so drive in and drive out...
last year they had a special $20 all day.
Scott Cobbs has mentioned to me that a Limo from the airport hotel is $20.
So that might be the best way...
There are plenty of Marriots to stay at...
free parking. (at least at the ones I saw)
But if you stay at an expensive linking hotel..they make you pay for parking...
and at 4 days straight...that will add up.

Actually, sign up for the announcement lists for GenCon on the GenCon website. Badge registration was in January or February last time. If you have a badge, then they email you the hotel registration code so you can sign up when it first goes out. There are some hotels within easy walking distance of the convention center that go for about $150 a night (that's the price with taxes and everything). But those go real fast. By real fast, I'm talking within hours of the opening of the hotel registration.
There is an alternative. If you sign up to help SFR, we can give you the code for the block of rooms reserved for exhibitors. Same prices, but they don't run out of cheap rooms. All we ask is that you give us about 6 hours of your time at GenCon. _________________ You can never have too many dice.

Thanks Jim and Chuck,
I like the alternative! Consider me signed up! Actually, helping out at the convention is one of the main reasons I want to make the trip, the other is the chance to meet as many of the DD community as possible!
Thanks again, this makes things a lot easier!

Update:
I just found out about a fantatic deal on airfare from my Travel Agent, but I have to act fast, like by tomorrow. So, here's my question, How busy is the convention for DD on Thursday versus Friday? When do we need the most coverage (on average)? I could fly out Wednesday to be at the Con first thing Thursday morning if need be or I could wait a day and be there Friday, your call. Let me know what will be best.
Thanks for the alternative (housing option)!

Our busiest day is Saturday without a doubt. After that it's a tough call, but I'd say Thursday by a hair.
BTW, we got a fair number of people last year that were looking to share a room. So that's another way to go as well. _________________ You can never have too many dice.

Well it's official! I've got my plane reservations all set. I'll fly into Indy Wednesday and be ready to "Report for Duty" Thursday morning. You can count on me! Thank you for the help with hotel! I'm really looking forward to this, (can you tell I've never been to Gencon?). Please keep me informed with updates (when they become available).
Thank You for your time,
