I've really enjoyed the challenges of 36-health games that have a twist, such as the "trifecta" (army of 3-colors) and the "Rainbow Road Game" (army must include all 5 colors).
I'd like to propose a "draft" style on-line game based on these points (and these are not "set in stone", but subject to adjustment and agreement by all the players):
1) Players bring 36-health worth of ANY dice.
2) Players also bring two dragons, or one White dragon.
3) Players MAY bring up to 12-health of Dragonkin.
4) Players MAY bring up to 4 minor terrains.
5) All the dice are "thrown" into a pool.
6) An unaligned facilitator (or "Ghost Roller") randomly determines the draft order.
7) Starting in this player sequence: 1-2-3-4-4-3-2-1 and repeat, each player selects up to 3-health of dice. A player may select less than 3 to "bank" the difference, which can be added to the next 3-health selection when the player's turn to draft comes up again.
8) After the armies have been drafted, the "Ghost Roller" randomly determines the draft order for dragons, using the same sequence as was used to draft the armies. A player can select "5-health" of dragons (ie: any dragon, except the white dragon - which is 10-health).
9) After the dragons have been drafted, the "Ghost Roller" randomly determines the draft order for dragonkin, using the same sequence as was used to draft the armies. A player can select up to 3-health of dragonkin when the player's turn to draft comes up.
10) After the dragonkin have been drafted, the "Ghost Roller" randomly determines the draft order for minor terrains, using the same sequence as was used to draft the armies. A player can select one minor terrain when the player's turn to draft comes up.
11) After the draft, players choose the major terrain dice they wish to use.
12) The "Ghost Roller" randomly determines the order of player deployment.
13) After deployment. Horde rolls will decide the player sequence for the on-line game. The "Ghost Roller" will also roll for ANY dragon attacks during the game.
If an odd number of players wish to participate in this "draft" format, I will volunteer to function as the "Ghost Roller". Someone would need to fulfill the role of setting up and maintaining the "board".
Any interest? _________________ Daniel Burkley

I like it!
So people bring whatever dice and then throw them together to pick from? How about generating random dice period? Then you could have a really wild game. _________________ I Love to roll dice! |

We did a format similar called Mirror Draft Duel. 6 player
The first one I ended because it was taking too long...
(I was a little busy as well)
Chuck won the second one.
This one's slightly different with a few twists.
One thing...
if a player opts not to bring kin or minor terrains...that may leave a player with less minors or kin they way it is set up right now.
But that might be ok.
I would like to play this one...looks fun. |

After thinking about this a bit, I think step 7 will need to be adjusted:
7) Starting in this player sequence: 1-2-3-4-4-3-2-1 and repeat, each player selects up to 3-health of dice for 4 rounds (12-health). A player may select less than 3 to "bank" the difference, which can be added to the next 3-health selection when the player's turn to draft comes up again. For the last 6 rounds, each player selects up to 4-health of dice (24-health).
This will avoid the possibility of "unpopular" monsters being left for last and screwing up the 3-health selection rounds. Having an even number of rounds gives the 1st player the first pick and the last, evening out the position advantage. _________________ Daniel Burkley

Looking at the “random” option that Ghost Roller mentioned and considering how that might be accomplished, there are:
19 different dice for Coral Elves (5 common, 5 uncommon, 5 rare, 4 monsters)
19 different dice for Lava Elves (5 common, 5 uncommon, 5 rare, 4 monsters)
19 different dice for Dwarves (5 common, 5 uncommon, 5 rare, 4 monsters)
19 different dice for Goblins (5 common, 5 uncommon, 5 rare, 4 monsters)
19 different dice for Amazons (5 common, 5 uncommon, 5 rare, 4 monsters)
20 different dice for Undead (5 common, 5 uncommon, 5 rare, 5 monsters)
20 different dice for Firewalkers (5 common, 5 uncommon, 5 rare, 5 monsters)
20 different dice for Feral (5 common, 5 uncommon, 5 rare, 5 monsters)
20 different dice for Frostwings (5 common, 5 uncommon, 5 rare, 5 monsters)
20 different dice for Scalders (5 common, 5 uncommon, 5 rare, 5 monsters)
20 different dice for Swampstalkers (5 common, 5 uncommon, 5 rare, 5 monsters)
20 different dice for Treefolk (5 common, 5 uncommon, 5 rare, 5 monsters)
12 different dice for Eldarim (12 4-health dice, currently)
1 King’s Die (4-health) - probably excluded from a "random draft".
3 Medallions (3 4-health dice)
100 Magic Items (25 common, 25 uncommon, 25 rare, 25 Artifacts)
…for a total of 350 different dice (assuming all dice are allowed), 351 (including the King's Die).
One question to be addressed in a “random draft” would be: Equivalent odds of selecting any one of the 350 available dice, or a “weighted system”, such as basing it to the “health” of the die.
If the “health” of the dice are included, one formula might be to consider all the different sizes (1,2,3,4) and multiply them together to come up with a 12-factor “weighing system”.
Take 12 and divide the health of the die to come up with a relative likelihood of drawing such a die, so any common (12), uncommon (6), rare (4), monster (3).
The use of this “weighing system” would now
122 dice for Coral Elves (60 common, 30 uncommon, 20 rare, 12 monsters)
122 dice for Lava Elves (60 common, 30 uncommon, 20 rare, 12 monsters)
122 dice for Dwarves (60 common, 30 uncommon, 20 rare, 12 monsters)
122 dice for Goblins (60 common, 30 uncommon, 20 rare, 12 monsters)
122 dice for Amazons (60 common, 30 uncommon, 20 rare, 12 monsters)
125 dice for Undead (60 common, 30 uncommon, 20 rare, 15 monsters)
125 dice for Firewalkers (60 common, 30 uncommon, 20 rare, 15 monsters)
125 dice for Feral (60 common, 30 uncommon, 20 rare, 15 monsters)
125 dice for Frostwings (60 common, 30 uncommon, 20 rare, 15 monsters)
125 dice for Scalders (60 common, 30 uncommon, 20 rare, 15 monsters)
125 dice for Swampstalkers (60 common, 30 uncommon, 20 rare, 15 monsters)
125 dice for Treefolk (60 common, 30 uncommon, 20 rare, 15 monsters)
125 dice for Magic Items (60 common, 30 uncommon, 20 rare, 15 artifacts) choice of color
36 dice for Eldarim
9 Medallions
… for a total of 1655 “health-weighted” dice (assuming all dice are allowed).
So, instead of a 1 in 350 (0.286% chance) of drawing any given die, the odds of drawing any 1-health die would be 12 in 1655 (0.725% chance), any 2-health die would be 6 in 1655 (0.363% chance), any 3-health die would be 4 in 1655 (0.242% chance), and any 4-health die would be 3 in 1655 (0.181% chance).
A bit more complicated than plucking some random dice out of a bag… but quite possible. Each random draw could be accomplished with a random draw from a deck of 14 cards (Ace through King, plus a Joker), a coin toss (first 63 or second 63) and a Five Hundred 63-card deck.
The draw from the 14 card deck decides which race (Ace through Queen), magic item (King), or Eldarim/Medallion (Joker).
The coin toss (Heads: 1st 63/Tails: 2nd 63) combined with the pull from the 63-card 500 deck decides which of the dice from the race/magic items is selected. The number can be counted off the card by following the suit sequence in 500 or Bridge (clubs, diamonds, hearts, spades, Joker). The number assignment for the dice can be determined from the page in the rulebook that displays each race's icons (4 columns of dice: commons, uncommons, rares, monsters) and starting from the top left (1-60 being commons, 61-90 being uncommons, 91-110 being rares, 111-122 or 125 being monsters/artifacts).
Players could determine their own "pulls" (or "pulls" for another player), and the organizer could look them up on the "draft key" to determine which dice correspond to the pulls and reveal the dice and "draft key" to all the participants.
This could also be used to generate "random starters" for on-line "sealed starter" games.
