Believe it or not, it's nearly time for SFR to register games for GenCon. So I'm starting this topic and I want to hear from people who think they may make it to GenCon.

Basically, what in the way of Dragon Dice™ format games do you want to play?

Same message, different year...

I think that the equalloserfest failed last year, but that was also its timeslot...

I know we have several new players just picking up the game and starting to learn the intermediate level last year, did any of them make it onto the forum?

What do people want to see next time?

Assuming that we're following the same scheduling as last year, then we've got seven slots to fill. Going by the last few years worth of events, we've got:

1 - World Championship
2 - Sealed Box
3 - Battlefest
4 - Single Race
5 - No Magicians
6 - an all monster format
7 - variable

So, unless the players want to get rid of Single Race, No Magicians, or the monster format, we really only need to choose something for a seventh slot.

Suggestions:
Opposites Attract - 36 health. Chose two races with no colors in common and bring 18 health from each of those races.

All Uncommons - 36 health, all of your units must be uncommons (2-health units).

Event registration opens on Jan 14. I'll be putting our events in then.

Unless I hear differently from everyone, here is the proposed schedule:

Novice events: 10am, 2pm, 7pm Thursday and Friday. 10am and 2pm on Saturday. 10am on Sunday.

Intermediate: 7pm on Saturday

Thursday noon: Player's Choice (How to pick this is the problem)
Thursday 6:30pm: Single Race
Friday noon: No Magicians!
Friday 6:30pm: Sealed Box
Saturday noon: World Championship
Saturday 6:30pm: Battlefest
Sunday noon: MonsterBash100 (100 health all monsters, no more than 2 of the same monster, no Magestorm)

Ick, no Player's Choice. Basically, it means "to be determined", which doesn't look very inviting for anyone registering for events. Look at how popular it was last year Mr. Green . Plus, anyone at the Con who decides at the last minute to play will probably not have enough dice to make an army, if they even know what the format is in the first place (because the reg book just says "look at the forum").

Put something concrete in that slot. You can't assume that everyone who plays Dragon Dice is a member of this forum and looks at it daily.

Well, my point was to get some more feedback. You've made a couple of suggestions, does anyone else have one?

If I don't mention it, I just like it.

I really like the idea of MB100.

I want players choice be a definate game. I'd love to do a teams format again, but it would never fly as the first event of the con... I want to push the idea of a pure Loserfest. You bring an army and your opponent plays it against you. So the person who wins the most games wins, but they never play with the army they brought.

I've never been real happy about the time of the worlds, but I can understand why its there. I just hate to have people conflicted between the booth and playing.

Well I would like to offer what they do at the Master's in Golf.

The winner of the Masters gets to choose the dinner for the next Master's
event.

So in this case...
Dan could get his Choice of Player's choice. Razz

(I think he won that one anyways...)

with the release of the Eldarim, I suggest we make the players choice something releated to them?

some type of construction rule that requires them.

That will work as long as we get the Eldarim Kickers into retail sales by June 12, 2009. That's 60 days before GenCon.....

I'm thinking about switching the MB100 to Thursday, and having "something else" on Sunday afternoon. That may be a much better time slot for a game that includes Eldarim. Gives players plenty of time to go buy them...... Very Happy

Good idea and a specific event can always over right the 'STANDARD' rules. So as a special event it can use dice that aren't used in Worlds yet.

The new abilities and spells are already posted, so the only benifit are that stock holders know the icon distribution while non-stockholders would have to wait until after its released...

or we can release that too. I have the distribution with the test images on the SFR server, would be simple to release it and we can start (public) online games as teasers...

Well, since my name was casually mentioned - I actually do have a suggestion for the "Players' Choice" or "TBD" event:

I'll call it "Trifecta", and here how it would work:
1) 36-health, composed of three different 12-health races.
2) No Magestorm.
3) No more than 18-health as "magicians".
4) Each of the 12-health races starts as the Home, Horde, and Campaign armies (ie: each army must be one of the 12-health races).

I must confess, however, that the Thursday, noon, timeslot seems to be a bit of "sleeper", so I would not expect this event (or maybe any event for that matter) at that time slot to be "well-attended". A beginner or intermediate event at that slot might be better received by the newer players.

I don't recall exactly how these are named, but can we make sure that they will attract new players and not scare them away.

ex. anything with the word tournament in it will be overlooked by someone learning to play.

Here's exactly what it was last year:

Quote:
Game ID Title
TCG00002 Novice Tournament

Information about the submitted events

Game ID: TCG00002
Gaming Group/Sponsor: SFR, Inc
Primary Game Master Name: Chuck Pint
Title: Novice Tournament
Event Description: New players borrow a starter pack of dice and experience the thrill of Dragon Dice combat while learning the details of the game. Swiss format, beginner's rules.
Web site address for more information: www.sfr-inc.com
Email address for more information: gencon@sfr-inc.com
Event Type: TCG - Tradable Card Game
Event Duration (hours): 2
Event Start Date: 8/14/08 10:00 AM
Event End Date: 8/14/08 12:00 PM
Age Requirement: Everyone (6+)
Experience Required: Young Players (rules are taught)
Game System: Dragon Dice
Rules Edition: Dragon Dice Demo Rules
Materials Provided: Yes
Event Cost: $2.00

Calling a novice or beginner event is ok. Just can't put the word "demo" into it. Demos are only allowed at the booth. I guess we get away with "Demo Rules", but I don't think we can get away with that in the title.

So should I say "event" instead of "tournament"? Or is there something better?

That does hinder us some.

We have a few more days, so I want to see what some others have to say.

Personally I like the term "event" slightly better than "tournament". However, what about the term "challenge". This term may spark some interest. What do you think? Question

Thanks for your time, Smile

Sealed Box Plus - Bring a sealed Starter and a Sealed Eldarim Kicker. Use the dice inside to construct a 36 health army to use in the tournament.

Variations: Army size could be up to 48 health. We could stipulate that all the dice from the Eldarim kicker must be used, with the dice from the starter making up the rest of the army. Will there be any Dragonkin product available? If yes, then perhaps bring one of those as well. Though we don't want to push the cost of the event too high.

We can always have a special price just for this event. So by signing up for this event, you get:

Random Starter
Eldarim Kicker
Dragonkin ???

Basically show us the event ticket at the booth, pay for the items there, and you'll pick it all up at the event. Not a lot different from Sealed Box.

I forget the exactly health count in an Eldarim box, but you could always make it an 'Eldarim-fest' and have it be One or Two eldarim Kickers (use all dice in the box) and I have enough random terrains and dragon's to throw on the table to finish a legal game...

or make it one Eldarim plus one Magestorm to get the dkin.
