Hey Steve,

Any word on what the Dragon Dice event schedule will look like for Dreamation 2009 (at the Morristown Hyatt & Conference Center in Morristown, New Jersey)? It's only a couple of months away. I haven't seen anything specific from DOUBLE EXPOSURE concerning any events, yet.

My "Dragons' Pass" boardgame has evolved a bit since I introduced it at DEXCON 11. I would be willing to put on an event or two with it. I also have a 2nd boardmap with 16 territories (one for each terrain die) besides the original one with 22 territories.

I'd love to just show up, but even though I've moved a lot more to the east, its still too long of a drive to get there and amtrak doesn't seem to stop there...

I haven't gotten in touch with Dreamation yet due to potential scheduling issues on my end. I'll get some events in (probably Friday night/Saturday/Sunday), but I may need to have some help this year. I should get this done before I ship Pelter Boy out to Pasadena this Saturday.

I can be available to help you out, Steve. I can umpire some events or put on some demonstration games. I hope the weather is "cooperative".

OK, here's the bad news-since Dreamation was moved to February, it now conflicts with the New Jersey Music Educators Association conference (probably why it had to move the Morristown-the East Brunswick Hilton is solidly booked by NJMEA). This wouldn't normally be an issue despite my profession, because very few of us go on Saturday, and I'd be working on Thursday and Friday anyway. However, this year that means it conflicts with the NJ All-State Band weekend and concert, which we expect Robert to be part of. So none of my family can make it to Dreamation this year, except possibly for a brief visit.

The good news: if I can get a couple of people to work it, we can probably still have an SFR table at the con. I can arrange for the products and provide sign-up and logistical support. Anyone can sign up on the Double Exposure web site to run events. If we can't get a table going, at least we should have someone run events.

I may be able to get a couple of vendor passes, which include free regsitration and access to the DE staff lounge, if I can get people to run the table. Anyone who is interested please contact me via this forum or by e-mail at DDiceRC(AT)aol(DOT) com.

Hi Steve,

I will look into the possibility of being there the whole weekend. I'll need to re-examine both my work and family schedules (and float the idea by my bride).

Daniel

Hi Steve,

I cannot commit to the entire weekend. I can be there for two days, tops.

None of the 8 players I've introduced to Dragon Dice will be attending, although I expect some for DEXCON later this year. I've heard of another gaming event happening that same weekend at Ft. Dix...

I was unable to get coverage for this convention, so there will not be an SFR table for the first time in 4 years. Dan, if you want to run some events when you're there, go ahead and register them. We've always done a regional for the DENCC circuit, which is a regular 36h constructed, and the winner gets a bye into the national finals. If you do run events, let me know and I'll get you some prizes to give out.

We'll be back for DexCon this summer, though.

I will be up at Dreamation on Saturday, February 21st, to run five events at 9AM (Regional Championship, 1st qualifier), 11 AM, 1 PM, 2PM (Regional Championship, 2nd Qualifier), 4PM and 6 PM (Regional Championship, Final Event). I will make the 11AM, 1PM, and 4PM events flexible to accomodate players of any experience level (and to encourage new ones). If there is interest in further gaming, I'll stay to put on an early evening event.

Regional Championship Events: 36 health army, no more than 50 percent magic dice. All legal dice (including Magestorm and Promo dice) may be used in this event. All spells are in play. The most current Advanced Rules as found on the SFR web site will be used. Players may play in either or both of the two qualifying sessions.

Options for the 11AM, 1PM, and 4PM events include:
1) Novice
2) Intermediate
3) Advanced
4) Scenarios
5) Multi-player
6) Alternative games (such as the boardgame version I developed last year)

The event schedule for DREAMATION 2009 has been posted. They have put in two qualifying events and the final event for the Regional Championship (note correction, Routing will NOT be used):

C471: The 2009 DENCC Region 4 Dragon Dice Championship. Bring a 36 health army, no more than 50 percent magic dice, and prepare for war! All legal dice may be used in this event. All spells are in play. Routing is used in this event. The most current Advanced Rules as found on the SFR web site will be used. Players may play in either or both of the two qualifying sessions. Saturday, 9:00AM - 1:00PM; Session 1A of 2; Bring Your Own Materials. Beginners Welcome; Fun, All Ages. See Also: C519. Next Session: C568.

C519: The 2009 DENCC Region 4 Dragon Dice Championship. See C471. Saturday, 2:00PM - 6:00PM; Session 1B of 2. Next Session: C568.

C568: The 2009 DENCC Region 4 Dragon Dice Championship. See C471. Saturday, 8:00PM - 12:00AM; Session 2 of 2. Previous Session(s): C471, C519.

I will still do three other events at 11AM, 1PM, and 4PM as indicated in the prior post (which has been edited to align with this post).

Post-convention Report: DREAMATION 2009 was held at the Morristown Hyatt, which is a change (about 45 minutes north, up Route 18 and Interstate 287 from its prior location at the East Brunswick Hilton).

I was located in the boardgaming area, at the doorway by the vestibule where Convention Registration was. It was actually a fairly good site for visibility, as it happened to be the same room where the "Big Boards" were for signing up for any event (except RPG events), and everyone had to pass by me when entering or leaving the ballroom.

The 2009 DENCC Region 4 Dragon Dice™ Championship: I did not have any players sign up for either qualifier at 9AM or 2PM, so there was no regional championship tournament.

Demonstration Games: I had two people who used to play Dragon Dice approach me for a game and to catch up on how Dragon Dice is faring. Both were pleased about hearing that a new expansion is planned for release during the summer. I told them to dust off their dice and bring them to DEXCON XII in July.

I also had 6 "walk-up's" that I introduced the game to. All of them played to the end, with games lasting 15-25 minutes. I offered a common die to each as a momento, which half accepted.

The convention staff were courteous and helpful (as they usually are). Tough to say if the absence of players was due to a different location for the convention, or budget-related (as some only attend one convention a year). The 8 players I've introduced to the game all had other commitments that weekend, but I know some will be at DEXCON XII in July.

Thanks, Dan. Sounds like we have a base for some events at DexCon this summer!
