Trading Eldarim straight up is pretty easy. But what would you set the value of Eldarim at compared to other races? I know, we should just wait until Chuck posts his prices, then we'll have the official word on the subject.
Of course, the complicating factor of Eldarim trading is variation. If you don't care which particular variant you get, I suppose the usual 1/4/8(12) would work. But should values be higher if you're picky? How do trade values change for those of you who seek out all variants?
I'm only trading with my kids right now, so it's not an issue for me. By the time I do trade outside the family, Chuck will have given us the WoG. I just wanted to stimulate some debate. _________________ Steve "DDice" Braun

I'm leaning toward 1/4/10, but I have to do some analysis. Right now I'm way too tired to do it. But my rule of thumb is pretty simple, and in this case, since everything is a flat rarity, very simple. The idea is that the trade points of the race end up as 150% of the cost of the MSRP. With differing rarities, that gets complicated to calculate.
Ok, I decided I wasn't too tired after all. So I've come up with: 2/6/18. The reason that these come out so high is the flat rarity. So I had to rethink the 150% (which is there because I end up with a ton of commonly found dice that I can't get rid of, in order to get the 1 rare or ultra-rare). So I've changed that to 110%. That comes up with 1/6/12 as the best fit, unless I go with 2 points for a common in which case 2/5/11 fits. Yuch. I think I'll go with the first choice.
So 1/6/12 is my choice for now. Commons should be pretty easy so the same as current races, Uncommons a bit more difficult that most current races, with Rares about the same as most current races. _________________ You can never have too many dice.

Thanks, Chuck! Now I can't wait to see how you fit these guys on your trade pages. (That might not be a good topic to bring up when you're tired.) _________________ Steve "DDice" Braun

That's not my biggest problem. Naming all these suckers in DDAssist (and therefore on my webpages) will be the biggest problem. Entering them all in will just be tedious (so not tonight). _________________ You can never have too many dice.

I've got Jim's scans as well.
As for names: the commons are easy. Each of the four races are there. It's the uncommons and rares that are not so easy. _________________ You can never have too many dice.

Rather than name each of the Acolyte races, I decided to number them. For example the first Heavy is H1 and the first Shieldbearer is S1 (etc for Uncommons and rares). The die color is the second attribute of the name, so H1 comes in Red, Green, Blue, Gold, and Black. I know its not very exciting, but its functional until better names can be worked out and people can trade knowing what die they are trading for.
Just my 0.02.

Nope, that doesn't help me at all. The colors are easy. The types are easy. It's the variations within those that are the trouble. The commons are easy because each variation is clearly based on one of the first four races. So you could have a blue Goblin Follower, for example, and it would be very clear which one that was. But then what are the uncommons and rares? A blue "Group I" Escort is pretty much meaningless. If there is no other choice, then that's what I'll go with. _________________ You can never have too many dice.

That doesn't work either. Then the type gets left out, and that's really bad. I want to able to be able to easily group the variations into one place. _________________ You can never have too many dice.

I suggest the sword shield method....
so have a symbol of a sword and shield from each group.
Every Acolyte has either a shield or sword from one of the groups.
This defines the groups without allot of words.
Group I:
Group II:
Group III:
Group IV:

well if you notice...
it's
Group 1: Coral Elf
Group II: Lava Elf
Group III: Dwarf
Group IV : Dwarf
although this does not define the blend...it does define the shield and swords/axes
So maybe use the more formal names...
| Quote: |
Selumari
Coral Elves
Morehl
Lava Elves
Vagha
Dwarves
Trogs
Goblins
|
------------------------------------
Group 1: Selumari
Group II: Morehl
Group III: Vagha
Group IV : Trogs |

So using the Ancient names,
the blend of races does not define the unit.
Here what we have then...
Air Sorcerer (Morehl)
or here...
even though it is a blend of goblin and coarl elf....
the group determines its ancient name.
Air Enthraller (Selumari)
let's do one from each antient name....
but before we do that...
we see conflict....
Air Racer (Selumari)?
Clearly this is an origin of Goblin....
but it is not...as the blend has determined its group...note the shield.
Air Devotee (Vagha)
Air Toxophilite (Trog) |

| So by using the ancient names...we step away from the more commonly used names...like goblin...thus we use the shield swords to link the unit to an ancient name. |

Similar to when a woman takes a man's last name in marriage...
each unit is assigned an ancient name based on their shield and sword.
So in the case of...
Air Racer (Selumari)
Sure looks like a goblin...same feet...
but CE or Selumari is its identifier now.
As the Acolytes are a melee race...with Shield bearers....
these are the blends that run all the way up to a champion.
So it is these very things...the Sword and Shield that control their makeup now. |

Ok, I've put together a cheat sheet for this. Some of the time I just thought that the face was more one race than the other, so I went against Jim's rules. On a couple, it was the deciding factor.

That's the fun of it....
I like it.
I'm surprised you chose Morehl Disciple....
as the Id is a blend of Marauder and Warlord....
however the weapons are Morehl.
Makes Sense. |
