I had this idea tonight, and I don't want to say it is going to replace sliced bread just yet, but.....
How about a tournament where you bring a pre-constructed army ......................
that your opponent has to play.
No more than 6 health-worth of any particular die, and one of the terrains you provide must match one color in at least half the army you bring. (Not necessarily the same color.) Dragons must match in the same manner, but probably only 1/3 of the army, and maybe one color from one of the terrains. Amazons can satisfy either of these ratios.
So what do you all think? Sounds stupid at first, right?
But consider: it would be a true test of a player's strategy, to be handed the worst of all possible situations, and still succeed. After all, I'm sure that any of the expert players on here could construct their own army and demonstrate to me "how to beat a newbie in 60 seconds." But I'd rather see what Chuck or Cliff or Steve or Joe or anybody else could do with the worst army I can think of.
It just might make the Ormyrr popular in a tournament!
Anyone want to try an unofficial test-run at Origins or Gencon?
Someone can come up with a clever name for this style of tournament, I'm sure. |

In one form or another it's been done. The format was "Potpourri". Actually for some reason was not too popular. Sealed box tournaments also have the same flavor. Try winning a game against someone with about 1/3 of their troops being mages, when you have none. I did win that, but it really helped that my Lepoard Rider generated 30 points of melee in one attack... _________________ You can never have too many dice.
First Place at the first ever Daemon Dice sealed starter tournament.
Battlefest tied for first GenCon 2012
Single Race Champion GenCon 2008-2009, Sealed Box Champion GenCon 2007,2009,
My collection is 21,500 Dragon Dice, 20,000 Daemon Dice, and others (too many to count). |

Potpourri is a fun format; just ask Chuck and Pat Pint
(Ok, at least I thought it was fun watching them use the horrible armies I brought. )

The way I've seen it played in tournaments for other games is that first place goes to the owner of the winning army, and second place goes to the player that won with it. That just gives everybody an incentive to bring a really good army instead of a really bad one |

That would be easy-just watch me with the armies I usually construct. They tend more toward the "bad" end of the spectrum than the "good" one. _________________ Steve "DDice" Braun

Yup, that's true.
Just don't ask me to roll dragons. That's where I really don't shine. _________________ The Maj

Actually, don't let his son Joey roll dragons. That kid has either some kind of magic touch, or he knows how to make 'em roll right. Too bad he's so young, or Joe could take him to Vegas for the weekend... _________________ Steve "DDice" Braun
