|

Before I just take the leap into the unknown I need some advice.
Dutch champion ships 2011.
What form would be best and how can I make the threshold to enter as low as possible.
I am thinking of an open game with no expansions. So what you can find in starters and kickers. no minor terrains no magic items .
Actually I want everybody who thinks he has a shot at all just to buy starters right there and go for it.
I am trying to involve the nation wide gamers club to get involved but I want all the pro's and con's before I take on this herculean task....oh yeah if even possible I would like to play too
all advice and comments welcome.
I am thinking about the following items
- how much time needed to plan this?
- age
- no clue how many people so what space to reserve
- refereeing
- sealed/constructed (constructed I would say)
- can I play?
- what system (swiss?) and is tehre a tool available to fill the system
lay it on me so I can make the right decision to procede with this or not.
cheers,

I would suggest downloading the Tournament rules and I think this will answer some of your questions.

thenks Mike,
I found the rules just after I posted and I think a bit more research would have been in order.
some q's are answered.
However i think I will come up with new ones _________________ tumble tumble little dice, look at that I'll strike you twice |

Mike is correct most of your questions are answered in the Standard Floor Rules for Tournaments.
like - you can play if you have a three tiered judging system, but you need three people you trust to make rulings.
I'd suggest a single swiss style event if you plan to have <12 people. If you have a multple of 3 or 4, then you can do multiply player games.
most rounds are 45 minutes with a 10 minute warning.
If you want to restrict it to a simpler game, then I suggest one of the novelty events (ie don't call it worlds). something like single race or sealed box, would be better.
or just make up a new event and give it a name! _________________ Multiplayer Champion Gencon11/Battlefest Champion(tied) GenCon10/World Champion GenCon07/National Champion Origins05/Intermediate Champion GenCon02/Novice Champion Origins99 |

I suggest at least one "Sealed Starter" event, perhaps near the beginning of the show, and maybe another one on the weekend. Novice events should be run concurrent with the other Intermediate or advanced level events, if possible - but if that is not feasible (due to staff limitations), run at least one Novice event per day.
After the first "Sealed Starter" event, have at least one "Constructed Starter" event (Intermediate Level - two 18-health armies of different races with army composed of 1 x monster, 1 x rare, 3 x uncommon, and 5 x common). Those that participated in the "Sealed Starter" would have enough to play in it, as well as anyone else who has dice.
I started this "Constructed Starter" event this year at DREAMATION & DEXCON, and got some returning players from the prior year's "Sealed Starter" event. All of them bought more dice to expand their armies, so I expect to see some of them in next year's "Single Race" event as well as the "Constructed Starter". Three of them even entered the advanced event.
Many of the veteran players have not shown up in the last 2 or 3 shows, so I've done more novice and intermediate events to attract the newer players, most of whom are now comfortable with Intermediate level events.
The other events can be "Constructed" (Advanced or Intermediate Level). _________________ Daniel Burkley

Has there ever been a sealed box trade off event?
you buy in with a sealed box and then 30~45 mins of trading.
15 mins for building the 24 point army you want.
let's go dutch! hahaha _________________ tumble tumble little dice, look at that I'll strike you twice |

I've never heard of an official one, but that doesn't mean you can't be the first!
Also, the 'draft' concept is a good one too. dump all the starters into a big pile and just take turns picking one die a person (have to make sure you all get equal health) _________________ Multiplayer Champion Gencon11/Battlefest Champion(tied) GenCon10/World Champion GenCon07/National Champion Origins05/Intermediate Champion GenCon02/Novice Champion Origins99 |

I wouldn't go for trading: if I'd open a starter set, I'd be inclined to hold on to my dice, keeping a balanced set to use at home. Especially if it was my first starter. Another thing is that players might make unequal health trades, which would proably be something to avoid. Dice knowledge might also be essential for making the right trades, making it relatively hard for newer players.
About the 'draft' concept, I think it could be pretty neat. I'd shape it a bit more like trading card games though: Randomise the content of several kickers/starter, put an equal amount of each rarity in seperate bags, hand out a bag to each player at the table (a table has a maximum of rougly 6 persons), each player secretly picks one die from the bag (or an amount of health), then passes on to the person sitting next to him/her. This is done several times, passing to the left half of the lime, and to the right the other half of the time.
Once again, the health might be an issue. Picking 4 heath each time might make certain picks impossible at the end of a draft, whereas picking one die might leave someone with too little heath in his army. A mixture might be picking 3 or 4 health, as desired.
All these thoughts aside, I think a draft is hardly an event suited for beginners. Drafts in trading card games are very hard. I expect it to be equally difficult in dice games.
I think starter events are the way to go for gettings things started in our area. It's accessible for players of all levels, and probably requires relatively little thought on army construction, instead focusing on actually playing (and therefore learning) the game.

Sealed Events are funny, and we all know, you never can have enough Dragon Dice ^^
But for real Championships, you must use the Constructed Format, sealed is to much strange Luck. |

holly crap guys.
I am so sorry about this but the event I had thought of was zuiderspel and it is on the 25th of april 2011 (easter monday)
and now another thing popped up (well I hope it does around that time)
I am expecting my first born the 26th so I am seeing a possibility I might not be able to attend.
anyone willing to team up and organise the dutch championships?
DialF Yves ?
If not there is no man overboard I will start preparations for the DUCOSIM in Amersfoort for the fall _________________ tumble tumble little dice, look at that I'll strike you twice |

Congratulations on becoming a dad! (The DD community is expanding!) The birth of your kid has so much more priority that I will be angry at you if you do show up. Even though I do not know you .
As for organising the tournament: I hate organising. I'm not that good at organising, though I'm probably not the worst at it either. I just hate doing it, as it'll probably cost me both the enjoyment of the tournament and three nights sleep. I am considering organising the tournament (something I han't done before by the way) but don't expect much from me. sorry...

I am in contact with a supplier of dice and the organisation of the one day show in april. (yes in april) so if the organisation the supplier and myself are not looking eye to eye I can shift it to later next year.
If this goes thing takes of I need judges well there is me and who would be inclined to visit eindhoven in the netherlands around easter?
oh and if this thing doesn't take off maybe we can still do battle there constructed.

Good news the retailer as well as the showmanagement have not rejected the request for the dutch championships and are looking into the possibilities.
Asfar as I can see the only possible snag is that I am the only one organising this and adding my wife's pregnancy I need a co-organiser.
I will arrange as much as possible but if the need arrises I need a backup.
Or I need to postpone. but I will decide on that after the possibilities are known.
will keep you posted _________________ tumble tumble little dice, look at that I'll strike you twice |
