I know it feels like a long way off, but I need to ask for thoughts on events.
We did some changes this last Gencon... we dropped some of the novelty events and we had added a lot more starter type events.
some things are unlikely to change. Worlds will be on saturday followed by battlefest... there isn't any other time to do worlds and battlefest is my favorite event so I dictate when it will be
but for the others... what events haven't you seen in years that you might like (teams, nature vs death) and what do we do every year that very few people play and you never want to see again (monster bash, magicians only)
what event might work better on a different day?
did anyone like/care about the intermediate events to get a more indepth demo than the novice tournament carries? _________________ Multiplayer Champion Gencon11/Battlefest Champion(tied) GenCon10/World Champion GenCon07/National Champion Origins05/Intermediate Champion GenCon02/Novice Champion Origins99 |

The idea of a Team event is appealing to me. I'm not aware of any specific "team rules", so I'm curious on how that would be conducted.
I favor more "intermediate" games, as novice players that bought a starter could still play, as well as the newer players (and those that haven't played since last GENCON). I'm of the belief that you would get more participation - but I'm not opposed to looking at the numbers from the last two years to indicate if I'm speaking fact or fiction...
I would also suggest permitting the new white-faced major terrains from the Battlefields expansion in Intermediate events, but not the gold-faced major terrains (nor Hybrid Dragons).
I have no problem running a playtest event for the boardgame I've been working on. _________________ Daniel Burkley

The rules for the team event is still on the SFR website. It's at:
http://www.sfr-inc.com/team.htm
However, it refers to the team rules in the tournament guide. Here's that paragraph:
| Quote: | | Here, a game is played between two teams of two players each. The winning team advances to the next round. In determining the order of play, the player with the highest horde roll decides if he or she wants to go first or select the frontier terrain. If that player decides to go first, the player on the opposing team that had the highest horde roll would go second, then alternate players from both teams for third and fourth. If the player with the highest horde roll decides to choose the frontier terrain, then he or she would go second and the player on the opposing team that had the highest horde roll would go first. Again, alternate players from both teams for third and fourth. Magic is also different than standard rules. You may throw friendly spells on your partner’s armies and units as if they were your own. If a spell would normally bring components into your army, instead they join your partner’s army at that terrain. If your partner does not have an army at that terrain, then those units form a new army. You may not cast any spells on your partner’s units that would bring those units to reserves. |
The interesting part about this is casting spells on your teammate that expire at the beginning of your turn. In this format they don't expire at the beginning of his turn. So the Open Grave that you cast on your teammate, will save his units from the dragon attack (as long as it's not breath). _________________ You can never have too many dice.

| So is it just two faces captured by a team to win? And are there more rules than that listed? I'm very interested in this idea. |

The team just has to capture 2 terrains. No other rules than what is listed. I'd change this to be more like a swiss format, but otherwise leave it as is. _________________ You can never have too many dice.

| Hmm interesting. One other question. If I hold an 8 can my teammate drop in and get the 8 benefits? Or drop his forces and allow me to retreat? Or is it just owned by the original owner. |

It's exactly as the original rules, except for:
- How you determine order of play at the start.
- The fact that you can cast "friendly" magic on your teammate the same as spells you can cast on your armies.
Nothing else changes. So your teammate does not get any benefit from your eighth face. If you retreat all your units from an eighth face you own, the terrain immediately drops to 7. Same as the standard rules. _________________ You can never have too many dice.

how would you feel about running this at an extra table from the booth? it would require more of your time, but would give you a much better sample of players _________________ Multiplayer Champion Gencon11/Battlefest Champion(tied) GenCon10/World Champion GenCon07/National Champion Origins05/Intermediate Champion GenCon02/Novice Champion Origins99 |

I only got to play Teams once and got stomped because I didn't appreciate how quickly a game can end. With that many terrains on the table and two people working together to turn it up...
I think the most interesting thing to note is that you can create an army for your opponent via a resurrection spell. _________________ Multiplayer Champion Gencon11/Battlefest Champion(tied) GenCon10/World Champion GenCon07/National Champion Origins05/Intermediate Champion GenCon02/Novice Champion Origins99 |

Perhaps a multi-player format...
but not teams.
The multi-player game is quite a different style of play.
It may seem at times that there are teams,
(through political play and table talk)
but everyone is on their own.
I believe that they still use the multi-player round at Dex Con...
for the Nationals.
I think it is an opening round only...
I'm thinking perhaps an entire tournament that would be multi-player.
You might want to go more than 40 min however.

No, there is a format called teams. no table talk and combined victory conditions. _________________ Multiplayer Champion Gencon11/Battlefest Champion(tied) GenCon10/World Champion GenCon07/National Champion Origins05/Intermediate Champion GenCon02/Novice Champion Origins99 |

Well I was explaining how it feels sometimes during a non team multi-player game.
even with the rule no table talk...
there will always be something said however remote.
My Suggestion...
was to make a non team multi-player format.
perhaps Sealed Box in 4 player mode.
(3 player would be like a by...
if there is an odd number of players)

Perhaps a team 2-player starter.
(2 players vs 2 players)
Each player would split a starter box.
Each must use the 18 health from each race.
So this makes it difficult,
as you have a random army,
and only 18 health. |

event registration opens in 4 days.
At this point I've heard nothing that would make me submit anything differently than last year. _________________ Multiplayer Champion Gencon11/Battlefest Champion(tied) GenCon10/World Champion GenCon07/National Champion Origins05/Intermediate Champion GenCon02/Novice Champion Origins99 |

Well you could switch up the Kickers to the other sets SFR sells...
Scalders and Frostwings
So instead of
Fire in the Sky:
Sealed Starter plus firewalker kicker
and
Don't Stray from the Path:
Sealed Starter plus Treefolk kicker
==================
you could make
It's a Scorcher :
Sealed Starter plus Scalder kicker
and
First Frost:
Sealed Starter plus Frostwing kicker |

The reason we went with Firewalkers and Treefolk is simple. We have a ton of them. It makes no sense to do that with our best selling kickers, which are Scalders and Frostwings.
So if we keep those events, they will be those two races. _________________ You can never have too many dice.

if we have enough players in an event we could easily host any event in a 3 player format.
however there wouldn't be very many rounds in only a 4 hour block. _________________ Multiplayer Champion Gencon11/Battlefest Champion(tied) GenCon10/World Champion GenCon07/National Champion Origins05/Intermediate Champion GenCon02/Novice Champion Origins99 |
