Also, make sure to understand that if we run a three-player format, and we get (for example) 8 players, how does that work? We can't give 2 byes. I think it may be best to state that the game will be played with more than 2 players. That means given a number of players from 3 to 12 (it's easy to see how to extend the table), the number and size of games that would have to be played so no player was left out any round is:
| players | 3-player | 4-player | 5-player | | 3 | 1 | 0 | 0 | | 4 | 0 | 1 | 0 | | 5 | 0 | 0 | 1 | | 6 | 2 | 0 | 0 | | 7 | 1 | 1 | 0 | | 8 | 0 | 2 | 0 | | 9 | 3 | 0 | 0 | | 10 | 2 or 0 | 1 or 0 | 0 or 2 | | 11 | 1 | 2 | 0 | | 12 | 4 or 0 | 0 or 3 | 0 | |
Note: when there is an "or", choose all the first choices or all the second choices.
So if that works for everyone, it could be a format we try this year. _________________ You can never have too many dice.

agreed. we could just post it as a multiplayer format and play it as a normal 'full rules' event.
point scoring would be like normal and I would expect lots of timeouts. _________________ Multiplayer Champion Gencon11/Battlefest Champion(tied) GenCon10/World Champion GenCon07/National Champion Origins05/Intermediate Champion GenCon02/Novice Champion Origins99 |

That got me thinking about scoring. If it was a win on time, the other players would get a lose on time. That's ok. If it was a total win, would it make sense to give the other players a total lose (if no eighth face) or either a draw or lose on time if they did have an eighth face? That would help with differentiating the rankings. _________________ You can never have too many dice.

hmm, that would be interesting...
so we are proposing the following?
- last man standing (ie michigan) gives you 2 pts.
- two 8ths give you 2 pts.
- one 8th but lost gives you 1 pt.
- no 8th, gives you 0 pt.
- being eliminated gives you 0pt.
I like that better than giving out the same number of pts to the non-winners. _________________ Multiplayer Champion Gencon11/Battlefest Champion(tied) GenCon10/World Champion GenCon07/National Champion Origins05/Intermediate Champion GenCon02/Novice Champion Origins99 |

Event Proposal...
Gencon always needs a day to get the bugs out of their system, so I'm posting two different options for feed back... I need feedback from SFR staff, but also from players who will be playing events while the staffers are working.
you know when am and pm are...
Option 1: (almost same as last year)
Novice Tournament - Thur 10,2,7 - Fri 10,2,7 - Sat 10,2,7 - Sun 10,2
Intermediate Tournament (Proposed to rename to either Advanced Novice or Novice Plus to make it less scary to new players) - Thur 12,4,9 - Fri 12,4,9 - Sat 12,4,9 - Sun 12
No magicians (suggestions for alternate, monsterbash, singlerace?) - Thurs 12
MultiPlayer (suggestions for name) - Thurs 7
Fire Sky (renamed to Sealed Plus - Fire in the Sky) - Fri 12
Sealed - Fri 7
Worlds - Sat 12
Battlefest - Sat 7
Don't Stray (renamed to Sealed Plus - Don't Stray) - Sun 12
Special event (Need a name, but if you know what it is you know what it is) - Thurs 10,4 - Fri 10,4 - Sat 10,4 - Sun 10
Notes about Option#1 - I know that any event scheduled for 12 has low attendance, but it helps us keep the table and counts towards getting us a free GM badge. I'm assuming the special event won't want to be held at 11pm. If we don't need event points then we might drop the sun 2 novice. Sorry to those who liked single race.
Option 2: (Is the player base rebuilt enough for this?)
Novice Tournament - Thur 10,2,7 - Fri 10,2,7 - Sat 10,2,7 - Sun 10
Intermediate Tournament (Proposed to rename to either Advanced Novice or Novice Plus to make it less scary to new players) - Thur 12,4,9 - Fri 12,4,9 - Sat 12,4,9 - Sun 12
No Magicians - Thurs 10
Sealed Plus - Thurs 2:30
Multiplayer - Thurs 7
Single Race - Fri 10
Sealed Plus - Fri 2:30
Sealed - Fri 7
Monster Bash - Sat 10
Worlds - Sat 2:30
Battlefest - Sat 7
Sealed Plus - Sun 10
Special event (Need a name, but if you know what it is you know what it is) - could be scheduled anytime as its a 3rd set of tables for us.
Notes about Option#2 - This is 3 advance events per day, so three more events than last year (monsterbash, multiplayer, another sealedplus). The question is do we have players who will play dice all day everyday like they used to when I got hooked? If we don't have the players show up, then this is worthless to us.
Option #1 is probably the smartest, but at some point we should get enough players to jump up to more events. _________________ Multiplayer Champion Gencon11/Battlefest Champion(tied) GenCon10/World Champion GenCon07/National Champion Origins05/Intermediate Champion GenCon02/Novice Champion Origins99 |

How about option 3 (=1+2)?
Have three advanced events on one day (say friday) and two events the rest of the days. That might give us some idea if we've got the players. If we do, then next year we could bump it up. |

Novice Plus sounds good to me.
If we are going to do three events in only one day, that day would be Saturday. That's the best attended day.
Thursday at noon is usually a bust. Most of our staff can't play then, and attendance is still low. Might be better attended if it's a sealed event (i.e. get dice cheap). _________________ You can never have too many dice.

me and my friend wont be able to do much on friday, but the rest of the weekend we are open. We will play in almost every event. I think one goofy tourny would be fun, like only magic or some odd theme. We have told eachother we will make time to attend all the events that arent novice _________________ 2nd Place World Championship Gecon 2011 (no loses) |

I agree, and we push the sealed events hard because of that which is why they are so well attended on sunday. Thursday is usually too soon for people to know about the sealed event. Thus the 'throw away' event.
I really want to play multiplayer, so I could move single race to saturday morning, worlds in the afternoon, battlefest that night.
Then we are only adding one new event to the schedule. _________________ Multiplayer Champion Gencon11/Battlefest Champion(tied) GenCon10/World Champion GenCon07/National Champion Origins05/Intermediate Champion GenCon02/Novice Champion Origins99 |

we haven't done nature vs death in a long while, but it requires you to bring two armies. _________________ Multiplayer Champion Gencon11/Battlefest Champion(tied) GenCon10/World Champion GenCon07/National Champion Origins05/Intermediate Champion GenCon02/Novice Champion Origins99 |

Do the standard floor rules need to be updated to define a multi-player swiss and what the point system is? _________________ Multiplayer Champion Gencon11/Battlefest Champion(tied) GenCon10/World Champion GenCon07/National Champion Origins05/Intermediate Champion GenCon02/Novice Champion Origins99 |

We do need to add battlefields to the 'acceptable' list in the tournament rules...
Proposed wording for multiplayer format...
Dragon Dice: Multi-Player
The enemy of your enemy is your ally… for now. The entire game changes when battling more than one opponent. Bring your 36-health army (no more than 18-health of magicians). All matches will be a multi-player format. Multi-Player Swiss Format.
would anyone prefer to play nature vs death (in a swiss style) instead of no magicians or single race? _________________ Multiplayer Champion Gencon11/Battlefest Champion(tied) GenCon10/World Champion GenCon07/National Champion Origins05/Intermediate Champion GenCon02/Novice Champion Origins99 |

Sealed Plus - Thurs 2:30

Note: I just discovered that they won't let an event start on the half hour...
so we either make events 'touch' so that you have to skip lunch (10-2 and 2-6) or we start the morning event at 9. then we would have (9-1, 2-6, 7-11). I kinda like that, would people get up at 9am on a saturday to play dice?
sunday would be 10-2 like normal. _________________ Multiplayer Champion Gencon11/Battlefest Champion(tied) GenCon10/World Champion GenCon07/National Champion Origins05/Intermediate Champion GenCon02/Novice Champion Origins99 |

It's more important to leave some time in-between. I have no problem with 9am, but I'm the morning person. _________________ You can never have too many dice.

Thanks to everyone for their inputs. I will post the final schedule once it is approved by Gencon. I made a few last minute changes from previous years, but like everything else we must evolve. Some things remain constant and other things must change...
personally I'm looking forward to the three evening events, as always... _________________ Multiplayer Champion Gencon11/Battlefest Champion(tied) GenCon10/World Champion GenCon07/National Champion Origins05/Intermediate Champion GenCon02/Novice Champion Origins99 |
