Hello All,

Gamestorm 13 is March 24th-27th at the Vancouver Hilton, in Vancouver WA.
I will be hosting DD "demo & open play" events all day, tournaments in the evening (Thurs, Fri, Sat). We will be trying a new sealed format this year at GS, a "draft". Very excited about this event. The tournaments scheduled are: Thursday- Single Race (constructed), Friday- Sealed Starter, Saturday- Sealed Starter "Draft". For a complete schedule of our other events, check out the Gamestorm website under "events".

If you happen to be in the area around this time please come by and see us and let's roll some dice. Very Happy

Thanks,
Dave

Good luck with this! I will be interested in hearing how the Draft format works out. I was thinking about how to drum up interest, and I know that Drafting definitely moves product. I still buy in to the occasional Magic draft even though I don't care at all for the game anymore, simply because the process and decision-making is so fun.

I think it would be a blast. Do you have a system worked out for it already?

First I need to thank Cliff Wiggs for the idea/suggestion of this tournament. Thank You! Very Happy
I think I have a system worked out. One that will be fair to all participants. But, I'm open to suggestions. Also, in the event of the few Ultra-Rare monsters being pulled, I was thinking of replacing them with common monsters and using the URs as part of the prizes. Other than that, it will be a 3-round (30 minutes each) tournament.
I can't wait, it will be exciting. I'd really like to participate instead being the judge, but maybe next time.
-Dave

If you have two other qualified people you can have a 3judge system and all play.

Don't forget, you also have to put your left hand on an original Unseelie Faerie and Frost Ogre.

You pick a first judge. He makes all rulings, unless it's a game he's involved in.

In that case the second judge makes the rulings.

If the first and second judge are playing each other and need a ruling, the third judge makes it.

Usually only the primary judge actually does anything.

Guardian Games should have already placed an order. I gave them an idea of how much product to bring in. They are a major game store in the Portland area that greatly supports Gamestorm and other gaming events locally and they are the home of the Stumptown Bone Rollers Guild! I haven't heard from GG, but I'm assuming that all is well. I will demo, and they will sell. Very Happy

As 1st Dragon Dice Draft tourny World Champion, I have to give Dproman(Dave) all the respect I can for running an excellent tourny and supporting the game during the con with unbelieveable passion and stamina. THANK YOU DAVE! I swear, you BOD couldnt hope for a better advocate and supporter of the game than Dave.
As far as the first Draft tourny goes, it was as much fun picking the dice as it was playing, and I was last to pick. Managed to draft a complete Goblin army (except for 2 common Dwarf mages), but got lucky enough to draft 2 Goblin Harpies , which really made the tourny for me. Again, many thanks and kudos to Dave for his love of the game. Roll on! Dennis

Dave (once you wake up), how did the draft go? Did you end up doing it by health and people just stopped when they got to 36?

We separated the dice by rareity then went in order picking monsters first, when they were gone we picked rares so on and so on ending with Dragons then lastly Terrains. Great fun.

ok, so you ended up with the same health distribution as a starter... no all monster armies present Smile

were any of the more rare monsters pulled? beholder, chimera, etc...

There was 1 beholder pulled and 1 coral giant. We let the person who pulled the Beholder, keep it and Dave just put in a replacement monster for the Tourney...didnt consider the coral giant rare enough to keep out of the tourney.

On a side note, if you ever plan on running a Draft, it took about an hour for the 10 of us to get all the dice chosen. There were some brand new players playing though, so they took a little extra time choosing. All in all , a very enjoyable format though.
