You know Eggs, you have a point though. I mean, Unseelies just dropped 33% in value. Meanwhile, I believe even Ettercaps remained the same. I think you need to convert your UFs to something a little less risky. You really might want to give some thought to trading away (to me) one of your TSR UFs... you know, before they drop anymore! I would hate to see you lose any more point value!

Hmm... I can make the bottom fall right out of the market, just like that?  Maybe I should drop them to 500 points. Lose half their value overnight. Anyone want to sell me one before the market drops out?

Wow, you dropped value of the TSR Unseelie as well? Did you find an aquarium filled with them at a garage sale?
I can see the reprint's value going down, but the TSR one is surprising. |

Well, we won't know that until someone actually trades one And there are only two guys I know of that have more than one...
Here's a question: When was the last known TSR UF trade? I think assigning a trade value to that die is pretty much meaningless.

Chuck would know when one was traded, but I think the last purchased one was JohnK a few years ago wasn't it? He paid 3 or 4 big ones.

Since I know exactly how many reprint Unseelies were made, but can only guess at how many originals are still around, take this with a bit of salt (i.e. salt to taste). But as near as I can tell, there are still more originals in circulation than reprints. So if anything, the reprint should be worth more. That will most likely change in the future as we make (and sell!) more reprints. The best guess numbers I have (no I won't tell you exact numbers) tell me the next time we make more reprints, it will swing the other way. And that is a few years off as of yet.

That really is not true. There are more factors to the value of things than just "current circulation". There are several factors that would make the TSR UF worth more. Just the fact that it is (very) possible that more reprints will be made and that it is pretty much impossible that any more TSR UFs will be "found" or somehow made again is a huge factor. Plus, the TSR dice are what, ten-fifteen years older? Then there is the "story" factor of what happened to TSR, and the landfill, etc. Reprints have no such story. And this is all backed up by common sense... no one would trade one for the other straight up... so they are simply not worth the same. Availability is another factor. I personally have had the opportunity to acquire the reprint on many occasions, and took advantage of one of them to get one. Conversely, I have only had ONE opportunity to get a TSR UF (Ebay) since I have been collecting and was outbid (a winning bid that was way more than 1,000 points). My point isn't so much that is sold for much more than the value, but more, that there was only that one opportunity. They just don't show up on Ebay, or anywhere else for that matter. There was a period of several years when I wasn't really keeping up with my collection, so there may have been other opportunities that I missed, but my point is that to say that opportunities to acquire a TSR UF, right now, are limited would be a gross understatement.
Now, if something happened where SFR went away, and no more reprints ever got made... then a few years down the road, it might be arguable that the Reprint is as valuable due to the fact that less were made. But that is not something that can be truly represented now, because that may not happen. Its still very possible that SFR will continue some degree of success and produce more Scalders. Increasing the number of TSR UFs though cannot happen. That affects current value.
This kinda bring me to another point. Chuck never intended (that I know of) for his Dragon Dice page to be the Dragon Dice "Price Guide". They are his prices, and there is nothing wrong with that. (And as soon as he puts one of his TSR UFs up for trade/sale at 1,000 points, I will be all over that like a hobbit on a muffin!). But, we, as a community, kind of need a price guide. All collectible things generally have one that covers them somewhere. Its a collectible dice game. New people are discovering it, and it is only natural that they want to know what the relative value of what they pulled in their new pack is. When I was collecting D&D Minis, there was a price guide that was kept on a minis forum that a guy updated (via some program he wrote) once a month. But that required input data. His program checked prices for the minis as advertised by like 8 or so different on-line stores. Now there is a website that does it automatically, so its even better. But for Dragon Dice, I am not really sure how we get that kind of data. If there are no on-line stores selling individual dice, that route wont work. So, what are peoples thoughts on this? I think it would be great if someone (who preferably wasnt a stockholder or affiliated with SFR directly in any way) ran a website that displayed dice values. Maybe it could at least show "initial value", which can be determined for all dice by dividing retail pack price by health in the kicker and then adjusted by chance of getting those dice per kicker. As far as "current value", that will be tough... anyone have ideas? If we could get a few of the regular traders to create pages like Chuck has, then we could have an automated program crunch the data and display average values. It wouldnt be perfect, but it would be a start.
Perhaps though, this post is just too early. There just may not be enough data yet to make it worthwhile. Are there many trades going on? Are there any individual sales going on outside of Chuck's pages? We, as a community, have been getting along just fine the way things are. Its just that Chuck should be able to make changes to his page whenever he wants to without sending ripples through the community, or have to explain them.
