Josh, one of the other things I do with my time, is help support PCGen. It's a character generator program. While it's best for d20, it's been used for other game systems as well. My specialty with the program is output sheets (i.e. character sheets). It's possible to output a PDF.
You may want to take a look, I'd be happy to help in my "spare" time. _________________ You can never have too many dice.

That's great, I actually messaged pimaster about this very same thing. I was thinking it wouldn't be too hard to convert the already exsisting ddinventory to also allow a tab for character creation. If you could do that, that would be great. Now I am putting in classes to the game, which is defined by the starting dice you choose. Could you make it to where "if X dice are chosen" it puts the proper class name in the field? Or do you think that would be up to the player to make their character correct. _________________ 2nd Place World Championship Gecon 2011 (no loses) |

| A speciality program for creating character sheets would probably be much better than what I could come up with. But if you can't find anything that works, we can talk about this more. |

if we are making something from scratch, can it be done via the website? is it just a creator or are you wanting to save them as well?
I have written pages that link into the forum user account, so I know its possible. _________________ Multiplayer Champion Gencon11/Battlefest Champion(tied) GenCon10/World Champion GenCon07/National Champion Origins05/Intermediate Champion GenCon02/Novice Champion Origins99 |

Well what do we think is best? And chuck do this as its own program? Cliff I think people would like to save their character, so when they level they can easily update their exsisting character, not start from scratch every time _________________ 2nd Place World Championship Gecon 2011 (no loses) |

Take a look at PCGen. It's designed to save characters, level them, update them with "items", and print out in various pretty ways. It's very flexible, maybe almost too flexible. It's both it's power and curse, it's very complex.

i downloaded PCGen, I like it. But can you make the visual part that DDinventory. I dont know what it is, but dragging the dice faces where you want maked me feel warm inside If its purely text based I think it loses some of the flair of seeing how good our dice look. In that same note, people who see the dice think "oh man that looks cool, I dont have that one. I need to buy more dice." _________________ 2nd Place World Championship Gecon 2011 (no loses) |

They are working on a new UI for PCGen. Icons for inventory was talked about. But I would not count on that happening. Combining PCGen and DDInventory would be impossible. They are written in mutually incompatible languages. _________________ You can never have too many dice.

I'll go by your picture above on the format and types of information being tracked.
What format should the data be saved? For example, would it be something like:
Encounter 1 --> Char 1, Char 2, Char 3, Char 4
Encounter 2 --> Char 1, Char 2
Encounter 3 --> Char 1, Char 2, Char 3
What types of dice does each character use? Which fields have info tracked vs which fields are always left blank? |

For encounter builders it can be very basic, just a list like you showed. Now for some one making a character, they will always consist of one race and whatever they choose will be listed. Whatever they don't, will be blank. _________________ 2nd Place World Championship Gecon 2011 (no loses) |

I'll just break it down one section at a time.
Info:
This one is straight forward.
HP:
I believe you said that HP is calculated based on the dice they had, so that would be a constant (correct me if I'm wrong). Should the user be able to enter a current value?
Spell effects:
Should user be able to enter info here?
Name of dice:
How about renaming this section to just "Dice"? For the units, there would be five rows. How do the last six rows work? Am I correct is assuming that tier 1=1 health, tier 2=2 health, etc? Are Eldarim a choice for creating a character?
Items:
I'm assuming that these are adventure type items that have nothing to do with the dice. So, users would just type in whatever loot they have acquired? |

Darn forgot about eldarim, yes you can get eldarim dice. I need to make a new sheet.
Hp-yes total is total health worth (tier simply replaced the word health seeing as the dice aren't taken away as damage like a normal game) current hp should stay blank.
Spells and effects also remain blank.
Items are what you thought, leave blank will write what they are.
"Call it dice" I agree sounds better, I will make that change also to the character.
Also to anyone reading these posts, the game is not set in stone. Please give input on what you think. Quest has changed many times since its first idea. Jim and Stormywaters have opened my eyes to many nice changes. _________________ 2nd Place World Championship Gecon 2011 (no loses) |

I took a look at the new format.
Dice/Eldarim: Would be combined into a single box (since you can't have both). Depending upon which race they chose, it would have three or four columns. Not all races have those classes (there are no Undead ranged for example). I would think you'd stick with the standard class designations. Is there any limit to the number of dice a character can have?
Equipment: Obviously this would be for items. Why are these six entries? Why two weapons and two magic items but only one shield and boot? Again is there any limit to the number of equipment dice a character can have? Why does this have a quantity column and the dice box does not?
Is the target size 8.5" x 11" paper? |

When it comes to equipment leave that those fields blank. Its a little tricky on whats aloud and what is not.
The eldarim will like a prestige. Any race can become an eldarim an addition to their race. The eldarim are not their own race.
There is no limit to how many dice a character can have, the beauty of the this game is the dice show your stats. So other games need tables for high level stuff, where as this you can make a level 247 character as long as you had the dice. _________________ 2nd Place World Championship Gecon 2011 (no loses) |

Oh also, I was going to simply change the different class type names to all be the same. I know it sounds wierd but for undead, the vampire classes would be considered "Ranged." And for Frostwings, the Light Missle would be considered "Save." I know its not traditional , but there needs to be a stream line for the character sheet to work for all races.
Any other suggestions for this would be most appreciated.... _________________ 2nd Place World Championship Gecon 2011 (no loses) |

perhaps add a resurrection space.
if you get killed you can be resurrected but that will be shown on the character sheet.
Example;
Resurrection: 4 |

| So the only things the player would be typing into DD Inv would be in the Info bar, Dice, and Eldarim? What about the professions? |
