Howdy I'm looking for some assitance on how to beat the accursed undead.

Myself and two friends have really gotten into Dragon dice of late and here is the breakdown of races.

Me: Lava Elves and Dwarves (usually mixed but i do try to run them solo on a regular basis to mix things up)

Friend 1 : Coral elves and Goblins (usually mixed but occassionally heavy to one side or the other)

Friend 2: Undead

We lose to the Undead. The only way the Undead player loses a games with any frequency is in three player games.

We usually run 24,36, and 48 point games.

When I play him One on One I usually cannot hope for the win, usually i feel lucky not to lose half my army in any given melee attack. And his magic is overwhelming.

Largely it's got me mentally preparing for each game under the belief that I cannot beat them because of their abilities, magic ability and melee ability. He tends to run an army heavy with light melee, and both magic classes.

So Yeah I'm looking for help tips and tricks for defeating the undead.

the trick is to beat the player, not the dice.

If he excels at magic and melee, then don't allow him to take those actions. there is a 3rd type of attack.

Keep him in missile range.

alternately, get yourself a temple and capture it. then no black magic can target that army or units in it (but he can still target the terrain).

Me: Lava Elves and Dwarves:

here I see dancing lights

I think you can out melee the Undead,
as they don't have much lethal SAIs like smite...
that and burning hands,
seems like you may be defending your highland home...

maybe just give up the horde roll...
as reinforce your home stance.

Friend 1 : Coral elves and Goblins:

lightning strike the large units first to prevent step damage

The undead are not that good at maneuver...
transmutes and flash floods to counter the nightmoves.

I'll cop to being friend 1.

I haven't got to play the undead player one-on-one yet. I actually feel pretty confident I could win. I've had success keeping a large army outmaneuvered with just a couple goblin Calvary. Thanks tho' for the tip with lightning.

Flood/Rock to Mud/Path is definitely a good combo, especially in three player.

The biggest annoyance is if he uses a dragon lair for his homeland with all those melee sides. Then my goblin Calvary have a tendency to get eaten.

Dragon Lair cannot be a home terrain. It can only be a frontier terrain.

Yes.

With the expansion Battlefields, special terrains were added to the game. They are distinct as shown by their gold ink. Special terrains act just like normal terrains, except that special terrains can only be placed at the frontier. They can never be home terrains. So there will only be one special terrain playable in a game.
