Rolled many maneuvers more than 1 at my home.

Ok, saves against breath:

5x Apprentice - Fly, Fly, 2 Magic, 2 Magic, Missile

So 3 are killed. Save against burial - Fly, Magic, 2 Magic

So results: 2 in BUA, 1 in DUA.

Save against 12 damage from Jaws:

5x Apprentice: ID, ID, ID, Fly, 2 Magic (wow!)
5x Magus: 2 ID, 3 Fly, 1 Magic, 1 Magic, 3 Magic

So... 9 saves. 3 more Apprentice are dead now. No chance of killing either dragon.

First March: Frontier

Knoll rolls ID: Choose Magic

Turn terrain down to 4. Roll for magic:

2x Apprentice: 1 Magic, 2 Magic
5x Magus: 2 ID, 3 Magic, 3 Fly, 3 Fly, 3 Missile

So I've got 10 either way. I'll spend 9 on Breath of Life and take back three Apprentices. End march 1.


Second March: Home

Bridge says: Double Saves

Terrain goes up to 5 - Melee. All Frostwings retreat to reserves.

Failed the roll against Flash Flood (thanks to that darned Wall of Fog!) so the terrain goes down.

First March: Reserves

Magic:

5x Magus: 2 ID, 2 ID, 3 Magic, 3 Magic, 3 Fly
5 Apprentice: 1 ID, 1 Fly, 1 Fly, 1 Missile, 1 Melee

So 11 total. 3 brings back the Runner. Cast Wind Wall and Wind Walk on my Home.


Second March: Home

Turn terrain back to 5.


Reinforce: All units from reserves to my Home.

What did you get for your minor terrain at your home?

Wind wall and wind walk... I can see the two creating confusion at tournaments...

Bridge rolls Double Maneuvers

Maneuver at my Home:

4x Envoy: 2 ID, 2 Maneuver, 2 Save, 3 Melee
2x Battle Rider: 2 ID, 2 Melee
3 Runner: 1 ID, 1 ID, 2 Maneuver
1x Charioteer: 1 Maneuver
5x Magus: 2 ID, 2 ID, 3 Fly, 3 Missile, 1 Magic
5x Apprentice: 1 Fly, 1 Missile, 1 Melee, 1 Magic, 2 Magic

So that makes 15 maneuvers and 4 Fly. Take away 6 for TRtM leaves 9 Maneuver and 4 Fly. Halve the Maneuvers and I'm left with 4 Maneuver and 4 Fly. Double those to 16.

I believe TRtM is applied as well, making your maneuvering amazons produce 9 - 6 = 3 maneuvers. 3 / 2 = 1 (rounded down), 1 * 2 = 2 missile results from the amazons, for a total of 4 + 2 = 6.

D'oh! You're right and I'm an idiot!

I'm pondering conceding. I think I made a couple of big mistakes in the first couple of turns, and I think it's a lost cause already.

It certainly has become an uphill battle. Though there are still a few chances of success (or at least stabilization), those are starting to become quite slim, so I wouldn't frown upon conceding. I played a relatively safe game, which at points must have been a bit tedious to face. The other approach I could have just gone for was spamming dragons at you, but I wanted to try out the slow crunch.

I haven't really found the big mistakes though. I'll look though the thread again (the beginning of the game has faded a bit in my mind), but I think my army is simply quite strong against yours. Wall of fog and TRtM are things amazons don't really like.

I'll quickly scroll through the tread to pick up some food for thought for when I go to bed afterwards. I'll read your post in the morning. Good night!

So, I'd like to play another game, using the army I posted on the Strategy thread. Also, I'd like to talk to you about TF strategy; I have a ton of them and I'd like to make them work (though I'm short on Elder Dryads, Lady Nereid, and Unicorns).

Thanks for the game! Once again I feel like I learned quite a lot.

One of the things I concluded when I went to bed was that your choice of not taking first turn was probably very crucial. Looking back I'm actually a bit surprised that you didn't take first turn. The feylands at the frontier might have lacked standing stones, but 3 magic faces meant that you had a very decent shot at a strong magic position right from the start (especially when considering frostwing anti-magic as well). Apart from that, it would have given you the time to flee tactically retreat from my home in safety to either the frontier or your home.

After that things seemed to slip downhill for you. A good roll for my stronger melee army meant you where simply unable to stop me from getting my 8th, and after that... I guess your only hope was to cast your blue dragons on my mages and hope for breaths.

As for my performance... for once I'm actually quite happy with how I did. Perhaps I should have waited for one more turn before I send in the reserves (the double maneuvers at the end gave me a bit of a scare), but other than that I think I pretty much did what had to be done.

As for the treefolk, I don't consider myself to be an expert on them (nor on any other race for that matter) but I'll happily engage in a conversation about them Smile. I'll send a PM tomorrow, as once again it is getting way too late for me.
