Is the bold part true? I thought it could just cast anything all the time...

I dont see that limitation on the bronze medallion anywhere in the rules (about haveing to have at least one unit of the race). Where is that statement Skawilly.
Note also that the Dragonstaffs not only double their IDs , but may cast any spell of their color also (racial or common). Again, nowehere does it say the race has to be present. Smile

Racial Limitation: There are two types of spells: basic – meaning any race can cast this spell, and racial – meaning only the specified race can cast this spell. If you want to cast a racial spell, all points for that spell must come either from units of that race or from matching color magical items. In order to use magical item magic points to cast racial spells, at least one unit from that race has to be present in the army. The unit itself does not necessarily have to be “carrying” the items that generated the magic points, nor does the unit have to actually generate any magic itself. It just has to be in the casting army.

If you are referring to the above..this only applies to magic Items, not Medallions or Artifacts....

Notice where I said "Magic Action". If I have Coral elves and Firewalkers at the same terrain with a bronze medallion. DURING A MAGIC ACTION the Logo comes up than that bronze medallion may cast a spell of any color, but may only cast racial spells of the CE's or FW's. Now, during a non-maneuver/non-magic action (i.e. in a cantrip scenario), it is now aloud to cast a racial spell of any color of ANY race.

Quote:
Medallions
Medallions are metallic, not elemental, 4-point magical items that come in three colors: bronze, silver or gold.
Medallions are considered to be “colorless” for purposes of the 1:1 unit to magic item ratio. Thus, a unit of any race
can “carry” a medallion. When assembling your armies, the bronze medallion has a magic point value of 4.

WOW! So it actually was a great point! Good catch! Weird wording though: the medallion is actually better at conjuring up stuff when you aren't trying to do magic... Thanks for pointing this out!

Nice catch Skawilly (I didnt catch that you had written "during a magic action") my bad. The Dragon staffs ID may still cast any spell (racial or otherwise), in addition to doubling, during a magic action. So they are better if you have some specific racial spells (IE "Flaming spears" on your Scalder ranged units). Razz

For the forum sake, and I know you know this one Egg, the dragon staff may only do that on a FACE ID and not a magic icon.
