So I bought six Frostwing kickers, adding them to my collection and I love them. However I have about 2-3 times as much HP worth of them as my other races now. That said in fighting with my brother, it seems like whoever has the Frostwings wins, and their missile attacks are just unstoppable.
So I figure some of this is the fact that they have the dice and hp to make more varied armies and specialize better. Still individually they seem to save well, maneuver well, missile like bosses, and melee is strong as well.
I know magic is kinda their weakness, but even so, they nerf everyone else as well. So what are some good strategies for shutting them down. About the only thing I can say against them is that I have next to NO magic units. I know the game is meant to be fairly balanced but they seem ridiculously solid. Ideas from the experts? |

Frostwings don't save as well as many other races, nor do they maneuver as well. They aren't hard to take down with a solid hit, and many races can outmaneuver them.
So my advice is just take them head on, and don't be shy. |

I rarely seem to get to nerf other opponents magic when I play Frostwings. I just never have my mages where there mages are... if I have an 8, I am casting magic from there... if they have one.... I risk getting my mages pummeled unless I park my whole army there. I guess I just haven't had the terrain come up magic to where both me and my opponent decide to share the terrain and cast magic. I think Frostwings have the weakest of racial abilities... I guess that makes up for them all having Fly SAIs except the cavalry... _________________ Shoe |

No no no! Frostwings Magic Negation is amazingly good. If your opponent has mages at a non-eighth face, you will wreck their day.
1. Move your mages to them. Cast magic and negate their magic.
2. If they move to reserves, move your mages to reserves. You can cast Wind Walk, Wind Wall, etc from reserves.
3. When they bring their mages out, bring yours out to meet them.
I don't know how your mages get "pummeled" by theirs; you should be at a magic face anyway. |

I have had different experience in dealing with them than this. I dont mean to say they are better than others, but I mean to say they hold their own.
They have great ranged and serious melee.
To myself this is what makes them balanced...
Magic runs the game, at the moment, and these guys just dont have what it takes to compete. Lets move the fact they cannot double, usually, outside of this statement. They dont path, they can only cast fields of ice once (Does not stack). In short their magic is not diverse enough to matter, and thats everything. _________________ Will

The magic part does make sense, if I can get a terrain to a magic face, or get an eight face, the game becomes less 1 sided.
I'm starting to blame the dice varience (I have more frostwing monsters and rares than any other race), but in most of our games it seems like whoever gets the frostwings wins. Especially once someone turtles the frontier with a full frostwing missile army. |
