Thanks,
| cliffwiggs wrote: | BTW the 'new' rules you are seeing are what we call 2.0 and are close to 6 years or more old by now. We are ramping up to do a change called 3.0
As someone who is just learning 2.0, I would love to hear your opinions on it and some of my 3.0 ideas. |
I'll happily share my thoughts on the "Starter Rules" document I downloaded.
Firstly, I haven't played a game with this document yet, but it seems much easier to follow than the original rules. I'm looking forward to trying this out. I was trying to badger my friend into a game this weekend, but he's busy so I may not get a game in before GenCon. I'm reluctant to comment on the actual content when I haven't played a game with it. I'll try to keep a note if I find anything confusing or surprising when I do play.
I'd be delighted to hear about any ideas for 3.0 that you want to share and will give you my input.
Since I'm reluctant to comment on the content, let me share my first impressions on the document itself. Feel free to ignore all of this, it is after all just my opinion. The document seems both easy and difficult to read. Easy, because it's well written with lots of examples. Difficult because of the formatting.
The margins are different on different pages and the ragged right margin really doesn't help. I think the margins thing is exasperated by printing a document formatted for American paper sizes on ISO paper. A4 is taller and thinner. I'm getting margins that vary between 3/8" to 1/2" (maybe 5/8" I'm eyeballing it). I could cope with the margin size more easily if it was consistent. I'm not keen on the flavour text scattered through the rules and the fact that it's in bold implies (to me) that it's the most important thing there, maybe italic text with an indented right and left margin would suit this better. Since this is a download, you might consider doing a version suitable for A4 paper when you do your new rules.

The margins are different on even and odd pages so when you print it double-sided, you can three-hole punch it. It's hard to make a PDF that works both on 8.5" x 11" and A4, but it's possible. The hard part are the tables (especially the racial grids on the last few pages). We'll keep that in mind when we make up the new rules. _________________ You can never have too many dice.

you know what...
I'm not smiling.
I'm not happy.
I find no enjoyment in wasting two hours of my day building a schedule when I should be preparing for Quest.
A schedule that now gets to be thrown away and Quest is sitting there looking crappy.
because of the lost two hours. that could've been spent in improving the players experience.
All the players who are attending Gencon, taking time out of their day to look at our product.
A product that they may now decide not to buy, because of the quality, because of the hours.
Do you see the dominos?
Later, I might get over it. I might enjoy having that extra person. but today and ever time I demo Quest over the best 4 days in gaming. I will see nothing but how much better that experience could've been. _________________ Multiplayer Champion Gencon11/Battlefest Champion(tied) GenCon10/World Champion GenCon07/National Champion Origins05/Intermediate Champion GenCon02/Novice Champion Origins99 |

Congratulations!
I'm jealous. I'm also in Dulles since I've been delayed by 29 hours. I've spent the day wandering round Washington. |

| Well I'd definitely like to see a copy of the RPG materials that were used for GenCon and any news on the new dice would rock as well if it's for general consumption yet. Also, I've seen pre-orders up for the new kickers at 10 bucks MSRP and it'd be good to get some clarity here too. |

however, all the details of the dice and costs etc. have been posted on the forum and on facebook for a while now.
the preorder thing... I'm making a decision today and will post something _________________ Multiplayer Champion Gencon11/Battlefest Champion(tied) GenCon10/World Champion GenCon07/National Champion Origins05/Intermediate Champion GenCon02/Novice Champion Origins99 |
