No. Both players play what they pull. But there will be strategies available based on race/dice pulled. Which terrains to go after... who should try for terrains... who should engage in melee.... how to maximize magic buffing for armies from both players... etc. The experienced player can explain why they would want to focus on certain aspects and avoid others. Some of the guys that were playing in sealed events did not even know what the racial abilities were of the dice they were playing. That is the point of the teaming... to fix those kinds of things in-game without compromising your own strategies. If it makes sense that an opponent would roll frostwings for anti-magic against you for example, there is that decision you have to make on whether to remind the opponent to do it (or does the opponent even know about it?). I think most of the experienced players try and help with that because from what I have seen, we have a pretty good group of people playing Dragon Dice. But it is a bit of a conflict of interests. If something like that could end up being the difference between a win or loss, and it is a tournament event, maybe its not pointed out. By teaming like this, the experienced player is encouraged to always help the team mate understand the capabilities of his or her dice and the options they have at each turn.

BTW, regarding this:

back in 2000, when SFR first started, the original 7 kept winning everything. so they excused themselves from competing. i.e. you don't want the company owners to win every time. it gives a bad image.

That is a splendid idea, and makes sense. HOWEVER, I think Worlds should be excluded from that rule. Worlds should have everyone playing... the biggest... the baddest... it should be a tournament that if you don't play in it, you watch it. There should be forum posts afterwards discussing matches, if people are curious... more learning opportunities. It also gives more meaning to being the winner if you had to play against the SFR gang. There should be bragging rights within SFR too! Worlds should be on the tip of everyone's tongue come GenCon time. Rivalries, memorable matches... all of it. I guess Battlefest is kinda that event now, since you all play it... but I think Worlds would be the better event for SFR members to play in. Its a standard game... Battlefest isn't. Battlefest is a bit gimmick.

I mean, really, how can you be the World champion if you never have to worry about John K... or Chuck... or Cliff, in addition to the current two-time World champ??? You just can't say you are the best if you did not have to play the best to get the title (and no disrespect intended to the current Worlds champ, who could certainly still win it regardless of who played).

You forgot one other board member-Dan Burkley, who won the Worlds three times and Nationals twice.

The fifth board member-well, let's just say he fathered a World champion and a National champion (who actually beat Dan!) and leave it at that.

Hi, and thank you all for your hard work!

Why not have a sealed event EVERY afternoon?

Thanks again!

Honestly because the only event I get to play in is the afternoon one and I don't want to play sealed every night and we don't have enough players/workers to hold two events at the time.

If we have more deck hands next year, things will change...

EDIT: And, also, if I can make it.

There were novice events running at the same time as the Worlds ... wasn't there? It seemed like there was.

But I did not really mean to suggest that sealed events should happen only in the afternoon. But having one every day (at whatever time) seems like a good idea.

But then I really like playing dragon dice at GenCon Smile
