Hi. I'm trying to stimulate any type of conversation that I can.
Yes, I know I need to get a life.
So to all gamers out there:
What are your favorite Dragon Dice units and why?
My favorites:
1. Dwarf Mammoth Rider, because he is one bad dude in a charge! Now that the charge is not part of the new rules, I'm not certain it's so great.
2. Undead Vampire, because she looks so cool.
3. Frostwing Frost Ogre, for the same reason.
4. Swamp Stalker Crocosaur, because he generates so much damage.
5. Goblin Leopard Rider, for the same reason.
6. Feral Buffalo Folk, is another charge favorite of mine.
7. Lava Elf Beholder, has so many SAIs.
8. Firewalker Fireshadow, because of Create Fireminions.
9. All Group Monsters, especially the Wolfpack, because I love re-rolls.
10. All Undead units because they all look great.[/list] |

This list isn't exhaustive, but here's some of my favorites:
1) Scalder Glower-Park an army of these babies on the frontier and fire! Intangibility means anyone who wants you off has to come and get you (which, admittedly, can be done), and as commons they're too small to target with unit-damaging spells.
2) Goblin Leopard Rider/Troll-I used a 36h army of 8LR/3TR in a tournament once. I missed the title, but had a great time hacking away at opponents.
3) Dwarven Warlord-My personal choice for coolest looking unit.
4) Unseeli Faerie-Actually, it's ugly and useless, but I had an original one, and most people didn't. |

| I haven't actually gotten to play DD in YEARS! I only had one freind in highschool that played it with me. My favorite race is Frostwings and so far, I tend to like mixing Frostwings with Firewalkers. Sort of a cool fire 'n ice army. Since they both have blue I can use alot of that magic. I have not yet bought any scalders or treefolk so I am unable to know how well they would work. I tend to ignore strategic army building though, and just choose units I think are "cool" hee hee. |

Dragon Slayers and Hunters
They make magicians think twice about sitting on a 8 and casting magic, they are absolutley the best melee units in the game. Oh, and that slay ability isn't too bad.
But of course the parent always picks their child as the best. Since I designed the hunters, they are of course my favorite.

Teh Mammoth Rider is up there for me but
as a HUGE wolf fan I have to go will the Wolf Pack, Wolf Rider, and the Wolf Folk. Face it wolves are natures true army
Least fav has to be the Scorpion Knight, I just hate scorpions, I have been stung by real ones twice once two month ago and just 5 mins ago. Little more painful then a bee sting and may puff up but not much more then that. Small price to pay for living in the Southwest. _________________ Got to love wolves, overwelming numbers, act as a team, Nature ready made army.

Goblins! Just for the color combination! I love black/yellow! (I know it's supposed to be gold) and I'm a goblin fan anyway!
Second: Frostwings reprints for the most beautyful blue. Looks great with the bright white ink!
Third: Firewalker Firestarter for the coolest icon (ID)
What they can be good for in game? Heck, I don't know ! _________________

Ahhhh... my favorites (heh... anyone who's played against me could probably build this list).
Amazon Medusa: Stone is a thing of beauty!!
Amazon Runner (light common): Just a good solid common unit for any army of Amazons.
Goblin Troll: Regeneration... What's not to love?
Firewalker Unc Mage: This is one of the best mages in the game. It gets magic on 5/6 faces and gets access to Firewalker racial spells which are some of the best. |

I saw that exact army not too long ago
I've been thinking about those Medusa's and there just is no easy way around them. No spells or effects can block the 'Turn to Stone', the only thing you can do is kill them fast.
Even something like Fearful Flames doesn't help because they can still target you from Reserves.
BTW - my favorite unit? Vampire, The only PG-13 die in the game.
I've been playing lava elves a lot lately, but am starting to slide towards to lava elf, Frostwing combo I think.. Maybe Lava Elf Scalder...

Yup, which is why that army tends to DIE in a game with a lot of blue magic. Lightning is NOT your friend when you use monsters. _________________ If you aren't part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate.

Listening to you guys makes me really suffer! I haven't played this game for so long! And I didn't get the chance to play it very often at that time either!
Now I'm sitting here in good old Germany with about 80963512 ignorants around me who seem to have no idea what a great game this is! _________________

Well, now that I've played DD more often I have to adjust my posts above a little:
Favorites are still Goblins, especially
Leopard Rider: I'm always very lucky with that "Rend" SAI which I love. Get to reroll them pretty often, inflicting damage up to 15 points with just one L.Rider!
Troll: Perfect Monster with lots of Saves and a nice "Regenerate" SAI.
followed by Amazons which are deadly in missile range!
I'd be interested what you all think about Coral Elves!!
I didn't like them in the beginning in the mid nineties and now that I've played them again, I must say that they're still pretty useless as a single race army, except if you manage to get the frontier terrain as Coastland also. Changing the rules seems to have no better effect on them, they are even weaker now! Maybe I just don't get the tactics but Coral Elves are the only race I always loose the game with (so far). And everybody else did loose also! (We kept changing the races between us).
I'd say that the Coral Elves are the weekest race of all!?
Please teach me better if you can. (This is meant as a scream for help, not as a complaint about the C.Elves!)
Undead are great, too. Their ability of stepped damage together with the Vampires "Convert" SAI is deadly! Get them in melee range and you'll tear your opponent apart! Not to speak of the "Plague" SAI! That's bitter for your opponents!)
Still haven't played Swampies, Frosties, Scalders and Treefolk, so I'm very curious about what they're like in the game. (Don't have enough of them yet). _________________

Please teach me better if you can. | Coral elves aren't a great race by themselves but they can work well with other races. The Coral Giant is one of the most damaging units there is. And because people aren't expecting great things from them, a few variations on tactics can really surprise your opponent. Both of my World Championship armies had Coral Elves. The first one was 1/2 CE and 1/2 Frostwings. _________________ John Koslow |

Coral Elves can work OK as a magic/missile army IF you can get some Coastlands going. However, now there are better races to try this, so they've kind of fallen aside. The problem with getting Coastlands is that the only races likely to try them as a Frontier terrain (besides CE) are FW (if they want a blue terrain and are afraid of Amazons), UD (who may prefer it to the other 3 terrains, all of which potentially provide better advantages to other races), amd maybe FR (same reasons as FW).
Now I'm intrigued, though. I'm no fan of CE, but I think I'll try to make a workable army out of them. Maybe I'll use them against your UD in the forum game, Dieter. _________________ Steve "DDice" Braun

Just being curious:
I noticed that everybody I played against so far (in the forum and privately at home) chose minor woods to play with!
I tried others a few times and suffered from the desaster icon several times which led to the decision to prefer playing woods since you "only" loose the remainder of your march but no units.
That doesn't mean that I don't play the others at all.
So I was curious about what you guys think about the minors??
Any favorites, and why??
Since point values are also based on request by players it would be interesting to know! I have the feeling that some of your trading points for certain dice might have to be thought over again, Chuck!
Like for Dragons, Minors, MI, Artefacts. I got the feeling that for example some colors of Dragons/Wyrms are preferred by players!
But they are still all at the same values disregarding the colors (All Drakes 12, all wyrms 16). Same with MI and Artefacts! And, as I mentioned above, there seem to be certain preferences regarding the 8th face of minors!? _________________

When I choose minor terrains, I'll usually choose woods or village. Woods are great because you're more likely to get double saves and the disaster face doesn't penalize your army or kill units. Village is good for melee armies, but if you get the disaster face you could be in trouble. I don't use the others frequently because the woods or village usually serves me better in gameplay (based on my past experiences and style of gameplay).

Besides the disaster face, the differences between the minor terrains is:
Bridge: two Double Maneuvers
Forest: two Double Saves
Knoll: two Missile
Village: two Melee
So I tend to bring Villages, it gives you a better chance to melee your opponent at a lower face on the Major terrain. Which can be a killer to a all mage army if you have a heavy army there. If I'm playing with missile armies, I'll bring Knolls. _________________ You can never have too many dice.

What kind of missile armies do you build with Knolls? I play a lot of missiles, and the only army I could see trying a knoll with would be an Amazon missile/cav army with a lot of larger units. I know I'd never try it with my Glower-heavy Scalder missile army! _________________ Steve "DDice" Braun
