Interesting...
If that's true you could also wild growth your skeleton into a spectre. _________________ HeroScape - Tree Town Open Champion (2008, 2016), Nebraska Skirmish Champion (2008, 2010) GenCon LightWeight Champion (2009), GenCon General Wars (Aquilla Champion 2009) GenCon Unique Hero Champion (2009, 2010)

True, but you'd lose the 2 melee results.
Also: Gah! I had made an army before we started this game, which was designed around this neat interaction between the Undead stepped damage and Wild Growth. But this game spoils the novelty of the strategy! (though it has undoubtedly been tried before)

But he would get to roll the spectre and maybe recoup them. _________________ HeroScape - Tree Town Open Champion (2008, 2016), Nebraska Skirmish Champion (2008, 2010) GenCon LightWeight Champion (2009), GenCon General Wars (Aquilla Champion 2009) GenCon Unique Hero Champion (2009, 2010)

No pussyfooting around in this "dance of death", I see.
Let's see how "scared" the targets are:
Scorpion Knight: 2 saves - a true "knight".
Duelist: 1 missile - flees to Reserve.
Now the Save Roll for the 12 normal damage:
Rakshasa: 4 magic
Strangle Vine: Rend SAI
Lady Nereid: 4 saves
Scorpion Rider: ID icon
Scorpion Rider: 3 maneuvers
Oak: 4 saves
Pine: 3 missile
Spider Rider: 2 maneuvers
Oakling: 1 melee
Willowing: 1 save
Total: 11 saves. I'll send off the Oakling to the DUA.
I haven't heard the music stop, yet - so I'll keep on dancing.
Counter-attack Roll:
Rakshasa: Counter SAI
Strangle Vine: Smother SAI
Lady Nereid: 2 melee
Scorpion Rider: 4 melee
Scorpion Rider: ID icon
Oak: 2 melee
Pine: 2 maneuvers
Spider Rider: 2 maneuvers
Willowing: 1 save
I'll target the Darktree with the Smother SAI.
Total: 14 normal damage _________________ Daniel Burkley

As always please double check board.
Counter Maneuver -
Bowman: 1 ID
Conjurer: 3 Magic
Evoker: 1 Maneuver
Pelter: 1 Save
Shambler: Smother
Trickster: 1 Maneuver
10 total (Though that was a lot closer than it looks)
Also you had 9 saves I think so I took the skeleton instead of Oak for you. (Though I missed it in the above board I will fix it in the next post) _________________ HeroScape - Tree Town Open Champion (2008, 2016), Nebraska Skirmish Champion (2008, 2010) GenCon LightWeight Champion (2009), GenCon General Wars (Aquilla Champion 2009) GenCon Unique Hero Champion (2009, 2010)

Even though I have little hope in achieving much, I'll launch a melee attack against Matthias:

Result: 8 saves
There is very little other interesting stuff going on in my turn, so you can consider it ended.

Yeah, I agree - but I'll counter-maneuver anyway:
Rakshasa: Illusion SAI
Strangle Vine: Smother SAI
Lady Nereid: 4 saves
Scorpion Rider: 2 maneuvers
Scorpion Rider: 2 saves
Oak: 4 saves
Pine: 4 saves
Spider Rider: 2 maneuvers
Willowing: 1 maneuver
"Shields up!"
TRtM will reduce that to zero maneuvers. Touché! _________________ Daniel Burkley

Thanks to everybody for the game. It really wasn't anything like what I had pictured it would be. I thought there would be more spell casting to buff your teammate, though the terrains all came up high.
So Dan, why the tower in the middle and letting me go first? Also why did you attack Shizzle instead of me?
Funky I was pretty nervous about your dwarves at my 8. I was looking at my dice and was like um... but then you just had 2 subpar rolls and though mine looked subpar, I think they were average for the most part. Though the Shambler whiffing was slightly disappointing. He redeemed himself in the magic roll (though those coral elf mages are going to be sacrificed to the swampland gods...)
Funky got the raw end of the deal going last and having his terrain come up so high. He had little chance there.
Anyway, just a few thoughts and questions I had. _________________ HeroScape - Tree Town Open Champion (2008, 2016), Nebraska Skirmish Champion (2008, 2010) GenCon LightWeight Champion (2009), GenCon General Wars (Aquilla Champion 2009) GenCon Unique Hero Champion (2009, 2010)

The choice for not taking first turn was something I proposed. The thought process behind it was that it would limit your racial benefits, as it would give you only one positive terrain (a swamp) whereas we would have two (highland, coastland). So the frontier was chosen to be the worst terrain possible, forcing you to go out of your elements.
One thing I think I did miscalculate in this estimation was game-length. Due to the relatively unfocussed nature of the armies, I imagined this game would be a drawn out battle of relatively ineffective combats. This turned out not to be the case - in a sense, the game was decided by 3 of 4 rolls (my 2 fail-rolls from the coral elves and Matthias' magic roll). In a long, drawn out game, the terrains would have made a much bigger impact. However, had I realized this game would end up being this blitz-like, I would have probably opted for taking the first turn.
As for my armies performance - BWEUHBWEBLERG! What a horrible underperformance. I don't think going last was really all that bad, but rolling a consecutive 3 and 4 on maneuvers/saves when your average is around 8 is kind of annoying. Add to that the great rolls it was facing, and I guess you could state that my army simply was a victim of chance.

The choice of choosing the Terrain vs going first was based on a team decision, which my team-mate has touched on. Once all the terrain rolls came up, it became obvious it would be a fast-paced game.
The terrain advantage we had banked on may have been a little over-rated, but my partner had some very poor rolls for certain results he needed at given moments (although they could have been stunning rolls under other circumstances). The loss of one army right off the bat forced contingency plans. I needed to get where the second 8th Face would be contested, and I advised my team-mate to challenge the army at the first 8th Face, since the Dwarves appeared to have a slight edge in maneuver potential and in combat (although a good roll would be required for each).
While it would have been the easier attack to go after Mathias' army, it ran the risk of having to take the first attack by Shizzle's army of equal size - so I took the first swing to try and take a "bite" out of Shizzle's army (which was accomplished) and rely on the arny to out-maneuver Mathias' army in any maneuver attempt (which the Treefolk aspect of my army would help significantly) and this worked during the first round after my arrival. Knocking down Shizzle's army would also help in outmaneuvering that army in my own attempts to secure the 8th Face, since he also had Treefolk.
Funky's mission was to outmaneuver Mathias' other army and/or attrition it to reduce its ability to cast magic. That was a viable plan, but was not successful. An average to good roll could have resulted in a different outcome and prolonged the game.
A fortunate magic roll would seal the deal, regardless if I had attacked Mathias' army or not. On that last turn, Mathias could have won that second 8th Face with an army as large as a single die. _________________ Daniel Burkley
