I get the burning hands on the fireshadows for 16, but there's 12 more...I see 4 for the last fireshadow and 4 for the medallion. what makes up the last 4.

Ah, I know where that came from, and it shouldn't be there. I probably counted 4 more damage because I knocked over my Unicorn after I typed all the images. But it should be 18 + 8 indeed.

Shouldn't it be 16 + 8...again, not that it matters as I could not generate 24 saves, but...

Plus, my Smite did work, right? One of your units is going down (please). Razz

And since you didn't mention anything, I assume I used Cantrip right.

Basic math, its soo hard... 16 + 8 indeed Embarassed. The Cantrip was good, but sadly the Smite does not work - it only works while attacking. Counter is the SAI that allows you to deal damage while rolling for saves against melee.


edit: I'll be away for the coming 24 (and a bit) hours, so my next post will be a bit delayed.

With my holidays finally started, replies might be a bit more sporadic. I'll try my best to keep them regular though.

As for your last action: magical items do not work in reserves, so the only thing you could have achieved is throwing javelins at me. Does that change your turn?

Sometimes the logic of some of the rules boggles my mind. Or rather the logic in the rules conflicts with my own. Without having DEEPLY thought about it, I get why Reserve Armies don't get to use "offensive" magic, but the defensive magic and regenerative magic should be allowed even from magic item contribution. If I want to set my army in the Reserve to cast regerative and defensive magic while my opponent can bomb me with offensive magic, all the while also being at a disadvantage in terms of maneuvering terrain - so be it. You can't use missile (except for Amazons) or melee from the Reserve, so that wipes out 40% of magic items and without DEEPLY thinking about it Maneuver magic items won't do much good either. So that leaves the Save and Magic magic items, which would be defensive in nature and so it seems they should be permitted. As well, those Actions typically prohibited in the Reserve could be "voided" if rolled off a Medallion, since again a Sortie, Flurry and Wayfare aren't going to do me any good in the Reserve (speaking for the Gold Medallion).

This situation also got me thinking about why the game does not allow magic items to function in reserves. I couldn't really see a 'storywise' explanation, but I assume this has to do with balance. Magic items are a very one-sided affair, and reserves are a relatively safe place. This means that a good amount of armies have no way of dealing with, for example, 8 Sightstones and 10 common mages in reserves. If you realize that in many cases (if my rusty math is correct) such armies can average 20 magic per turn, it suddenly seems slightly less unreasonable to me to restrict the use of magical items in reserves.


My ninth turn

  • Initial Effects Phase: none
  • Dragon Attack Phase: none


  • First March: @ your home
    Maneuver: yes



    Result: 12 manuever. If successful, I'll turn the terrain up to 7

    Action: melee!

What the heck...I Counter Attack.



12 Damage and 4 Cantrip. 1. Do I have to use the Cantrips before rerolling for the Double Strike and the Flurry? 2. Brain jam...the Dragonlord (any given race) can only cast their racial magic and the color that they are, correct? So the Dragonlord cannot cast a Feral spell, but could cast any Elemental Magic since he's a white guy like the Amazon, right?
