Hello!

I recently took part in a Dragon Dice tournament near me (the first time I'd ever played Dragon Dice against someone that wasn't using my dice, and I've had dice for twenty years!) and it was a blast. However, one thing kept coming up in the game that puzzled me.

If a dragon is summoned to an unoccupied terrain, or the terrain becomes unoccupied after the dragon arrives, what happens with the dragon? I always assumed it just sat there, motionless (there's nobody to fight, after all) until someone moves to that terrain, at which point it resumes attacking at the beginning of the turn of the person or persons at that terrain. However, everyone else at the tournament said that you keep rolling the dragon every round, even when nobody is at the terrain (which is important because if it rolls a wing, it can fly away, leaving that terrain once again dragonless).

Which is correct? I can see the importance of either, but I always thought that in Dragon Dice, you essentially never roll dice when there isn't a reason to (because of extra effects from SAIs, like rolling for saves against an attack that rolled zero damage and getting a Cantrip in your save roll).

Let me put it this way, if there is no one to fight, the dragon just takes a nap. So if there are no armies at the terrain with a summoned dragon, it just sits there. Only if there is an army there at the beginning of that player's turn does the dragon attack. Note a couple of things:

If the army suddenly appears after the first march has started, the dragon does not attack. So casting Path on a unit during a march and moving it to a terrain, does not wake the dragon. However, if a unit is moved to a terrain without an army and with a dragon during a dragon attack (Path from a Cantrip for example), then that dragon will attack.

So basically, if there is an army at a terrain with a dragon before the first march, the dragon attacks. Otherwise, no attack.

Alright, that seems to fit 100% with what I thought. Everyone else was insistent that you keep rolling the dragon even if nobody is there. (I had never thought about Pathing during a dragon attack though- nice catch!)

Thanks!

I'm curious where these play groups are? Do they belong the this forum or on our facebook page?

I'd like to see BCV (book, chapter, verse) on why they think the dragon would roll.

The people in question were the three or four I played with at the recent tournament at the Oracle in Saginaw, MI. The tournament was arranged by Frank Coleman (who I'm Facebook friends with, but met in person for the first time that day). I know he's in the Dragon Dicers group, but I'm not sure about any of the others.

I'm fairly certain they all knew each other, so it could have been one of them misinterpreted it and taught it to the others. That was a big fear of mine- as it was the first time I'd ever played against someone I hadn't taught, I was afraid there were tons of rules I had been doing wrong all along. (I know I've posted about some like that here before.)

I've talked with Frank a lot as well. I'll ask him about it.

I'm curious if there is something that was misinterpreted in the rulebook or not.
