Hi!
I have a question for you two Trolls with a golden Amulett are under the influence of open grave. They attack and were both killed by two counters -SAIs. What happens? Normally spells don't work against SAIs, but Counter allows (Magical) saves.
Thanks for your attention and time |

This exact situation happened at Gencon2010 during the worlds tournament. I do not believe the ruling has been over turned since then. No, I didn't remember that, I found it on this forum in a hidden topic for rules discussions that happened after the convention.
To start with, an open grave does save against the damage from a counter because it is normal damage (even if taken in a non-normal way). This is the 'stoneskin rule', stoneskin would save the damage, thus open grave does as well.
From the Rulebook:
| Quote: | | Example: A unit with a Burning Hands spell in effect is killed during a missile action. The Burning Hands spells expires when the unit is taken as a casualty and is placed the DUA. However, the Burning Hands spell would not be removed if the unit was saved by an Open Grave spell since the unit would never be placed in the DUA. |
This example is for a spell, but it shows that the unit never actually died. The Open Grave spell redirected it, so it's as if the unit were targeted by an effect that sent it to reserves (like Mirage).
That is paired with
| Quote: | | Whenever a unit moves from one terrain to another, it may take one magical item of a matching color with it. This also applies for moves to or from the reserve area. Note that magic items do not move by themselves, they must be “carried”. |
So, a unit being sent to reserves may choose to carry a magic item with it.
So in your case. Both trolls would move to the reserves. They can choose to carry the gold medallion with them or leave it behind. If they were the only two units at that terrain (which I think they were in your example), the open grave would immediately expire as there is no army left for it to be cast on. _________________ Multiplayer Champion Gencon11/Battlefest Champion(tied) GenCon10/World Champion GenCon07/National Champion Origins05/Intermediate Champion GenCon02/Novice Champion Origins99 |

Smite doesn't allow any saves, so yes they are killed, Open Grave or not. _________________ You can never have too many dice.
