Why use the flatland tower at the frontier? Unless you just want no effect from the 8th face. I would use the tower at my home terrain and the highland at the frontier. In addition, I would start with 18 health in the Hoard (If you are trying to go first or pick the terrain) and 17 health in the frontier with one health at home.

Yep! Second that!
Tower at frontier is of no use! The tower enables you to reach every terrain in the game but from the frontier you can do that anyway!! So put the tower at your home! That will enable you to shoot even at your opponents home from there!
Next point is:
If you decide to put up three armies at the beginning (which you have to), then put 18hp (with lots of maneuvers) in the horde for a bigger chance to win the initial maneuver roll, then put just one common into either the home or the frontier army (campaign). That leaves 17 points for the other one! If you have divided your total health into three more or less balanced armies, you are most likely to either be slaughtered or at least suffer great damage right at the beginning of the game!
I prefer to play 18/17/1 hp!!
The 1 common is mostly lost of you don't go first! But you have better chances with your other two armies!
It depends on your strategy and the race you are playing whether you want to put that single unit into your home or into your campaign army. Some times it might even be okay to put it into your horde.
Just play around with it and you'll see pretty fast,. which tactics is the best. Use the forum games to play online and to get lots of different opponents with lots of different strategies! You'll learn a lot in a pretty short time!! _________________

Ooops, you posted this while I wrote my other post!
Well, the 18/17/1 tactics is referred to 36 hp armies! Of course you can use only 50% of your total army health points for one army! So if you play a 24 hp game, it will be 12/11/1!!
In 60 hp Battlefest it will be 30/29/1 but I'm not sure if it works then since I have no experience in playing Battlefest!
I'm trying that for the first time in my forum game with Brad right now! _________________

I don't know if this is the right place to mention this, but the DDAssist program available off of Chuck's site (www.chuckpint.com) has some really good help topics on army building tactics and strategies. They seem to have been written under an older rule-set, but are still very relevant to current games. It might be nice to get some of those help files copied into the forum and maybe stickied in a thread somewhere, but I wouldn't want to post anything myself unless I was given the go-ahead from the current copyright holder.

A lot of Bruce's information is posted on the DDRC web site at http://members.aol.com/DDiceRC/DDTParchive.html. You can look at those articles, and if something else is in the DDAssist files post that here. _________________ Steve "DDice" Braun
