Hello all. I've recently learned that a while back someone created a custom set of dice for a Gnome Race, complete with rules and new spells.
I can't seem to find any information on this variant. Does anyone know anything? |

The reason you won't find anything is that it really started out as a joke. It was made just for fun and without paying the least bit of attention to playability. But we did try an experiment, and it turns out that it's impossible to make dice with three colors and be recognizable as three distinct colors. Which is the case for Gnomes. _________________ You can never have too many dice.

Did Dave Papay ever respond to permission requests to allow public posting of Gnomes? Recently, I came across a copy I had archived for offline viewing (woe were the days of dial up and one phone line). Oh the dry humor they had! _________________ Will Moore

He gave permission. However, I didn't post them on the website for the simple reason that they are not official, nor are they ever likely to be (see comment above as to why). Feel free to repost them to the "User contributed stuff". _________________ You can never have too many dice.

It's an entirely understandable position. I'll do that! _________________ Will Moore

So that the images are not fully lost, here is a link to a slightly modified version (only links) of Dave Papay's Gnomes:

If anyone has a PDF of the champions Avery layout, it would be nice as I did not. _________________ Will Moore

|
|
The original unofficial gnomes kicker was mostly designed for comic relief, but it also tried to counter (slight pun intended, of course) what was, at the time, the over-powerful and over-used "charge attack while under the effects of an open grave". This tactic seriously limited the viable army arch-types you could bring to the table.
Now that charging is no longer part of the game, if I were to do a gnome reboot/redesign, what game effect(s)/tactic(s)/army arch-type(s) do you feel the gnomes should address?
Personally, I'm quite annoyed of by the counter-maneuver rolls of treefolk. No self-respecting gnome would tolerate being constrained in their movement by a bunch of overgrown shrubbery. But that's just one race, and I wouldn't want to make the gnome ability that specialized.
Thoughts? In keeping with the gnomish spirit, the more outlandish, the better. _________________ Dave Papay |

For your enjoyment: A picture of the original set of play-test gnomes (yes, I really did play test these things). The statute of limitations has run out, so I'll thank Rob Harland for helping with the play testing.
The big blue ten-sider at the top is The Giant Space Hamster of Ill Omen (aka Wooly Rupert). Gnomes everywhere fear his wrath.

Oh man! This sounds really interesting to me, but none of the photos work. Anyone have fresh links? |

Yeah, Comcast decided to do away with personal web hosting space a while back, and I just haven't had the chance to re-post the rules, pics, and die layouts. I'll put it on my list of things to do. _________________ Dave Papay |

I made a snapshot of Dave's website a while ago. Dave if you don't have a backup, let me know. _________________ You can never have too many dice.

Thanks, Chuck. I have all the content - I just don't have a place to post it online. Granted, I haven't looked very hard for one. I'm sure I could probably put it on Google docs easily enough. _________________ Dave Papay |
