As you can tell from the subject line, Trolls are gaining some noteriety with the CSDDG. Everyone wants them, everyone hates them, and all because of one SAI.
Regenerate!
Who designed this overpowered icon? I'd like to kick him square in the teeth.
Anyway, here's the question (and we honestly looked for an answer in the rules, Chuck, so please be gentle)...
During an action when a troll rolls regenerate and brings in 4h of units, do those units get to roll and add their results? My opinion is no, but then again, if you use a cantrip to bring in a unit(s), they get to roll. So is it the same, or not?
Okay, let us have it!

OK, but you're not gonna like it...
From the Advanced Rules, p.27, under "Resolution":
"Units or magical items that are brought into an army with a Special or Unique resolution type SAI during any roll, either directly (e.g. Regenerate) or though the use of SAI-generated spells (e.g. from a Cantrip rolled during a non-magic action), are rolled immediately and the results applied with the results of theirarmy. These units can also be taken as casualties."
Regenerate is even mentioned as the example, so I guess it's pretty straightforward.
The answer to Trolls is burial, and if an army has too many Trolls, speed. Trolls can fight and regenerate, but they're slow.
Although, Joe, you probably recall what Jonathan did with his army in No Magicians, right before he trashed Robert's Canadian Pelters... _________________ Steve "DDice" Braun

Now you know why Trolls are always the top favorite monster. They save well, they melee well, and they keep coming back. But as Steve says, they are slow. Worse, they only have non-SAI movement. So Transmute Rock to Mud, stops them completely. Their bane? Any other SAI that kills unless an ID is rolled, or kills unless movement is rolled. Swallow is my favorite Troll killer. _________________ You can never have too many dice.
