While I was supposed to be working (heh heh) I thought of a perfect scenario for the DD Regiments idea proposed by DDice RC on another post.
For those who haven't read, hears the basic idea:
Dragon Dice Regiments: Played with 12h armies consisting of 1 rare, 2 uncommon, and 5 common units (8 dice), plus a terrain and a dragon. No Magestorm or promo dice! (I even think it might be fun to play with specifically specialist regiments: all Dwarf Heavy, all Amazon Cavalry, all Firewalker Magic, etc., but that's optional.) Game is played for one terrain. Roll armies for maneuvers to see who goes first or selects the terrain. (Alternate: If playing specialist regiments, roll the terrains. High roll goes first or picks the terrain. Otherwise the runners will always have a big advantage.) Game is played by normal DD rules, with the exception that there is no reinforce/retreat phase. (Playing with armies this size, you can memorize the SAIs and enough spells to get by.) Winner is the one who captures the 8th face or eliminates his opponent's entire army.
Well here's my first scenario based on this concept:
A group of notorious goblin bandits known as the Red Eyes (or whatever) has been harassing dwarf hillshires on the Trogland/Vaghaheim border, and a posse of Pony Riders has been gathered to round them up. Basically this scenario is meant to see which specialized regiment is superior, Goblin light infantry or Dwarf cavalry, but mixing the troops from various types could make the game more fun. You could also directly substitute Coral Elf cavalry for the Dwarves or Lava Elf light infantry for the Goblins. In any case, here are the two proposed armies for this scenario:
Pony Rider Posse:
Mammoth Rider x1 (Leader)
Lizard Rider x2 (Luitenants)
Pony Rider x5
Home Terrain: Highland City
Minor Terrain: Highland Village
Dragon: Gold Wyrm
Goblin Bandits:
Filcher x1 (Leader)
Ambusher x2 (Luitenants)
Mugger x5
Home Terrain: Swampland Tower
Minor Terrain: Swampland Bridge
Dragon: Gold Drake
If anyone plays this scenario, please post the results.
Please? |

Oh, yes, and about the solo games, I thought seriously about playing this one by myself, since my nephew is busy doing silly stuff like homework!
I know, pathetic. |

I remember seeing rules for solo play somewhere, but can't remember now. I know it would be one of the 5 DD websites that someone on this forum runs. Have many people tried a solo game? Does it work?
Darthmacho,
I think the scenario you described is one you could easily play solo. The strategy choices that present themselves to a specialized army should be pretty obvious, especially when you aren't dealing with Magic units or monsters. That's the kind of setup, actually, where you should play it 3-5 times to get a good idea of which army is inherently better. (If one truly is.) |

I have one variation on solo play from a site which I don't have posted on my web site, but I could dig it up. It wasn't complete, though, if I recall.
I think Taven (http://members.aol.com/Taven/DDTSRChat.htm) still has some solo rules in his campaign ZIP file. You can check that out. (It might even be the ones I'm thinking about.) _________________ Steve "DDice" Braun
