The official tournament rules are here. Go down to the formats section and you'll see the swiss rules called out there.

I have a question and I'm not 100% sure this is the best place to ask but since it involves Gen Con, I'll ask.

How open are people to letting others borrow their dice? I know in heroScape tourneys we borrow each other's figures all the time. If I need one unicorn or fireshadow or something and don't own one, are people usually OK with letting others borrow from their collection (assuming they asked ahead of time)?

I know that doesn't go in this topic, but I will split it off once it matures a bit.

This is something that just needs to be decided between players.

We are a nice group of people, but you would have to work it out ahead of time and find someone with the dice and willing to do it. Most people only bring exactly what they need to play in the events they are signed up for.

If you were going to borrow something that is more valuable (like a unicorn), then expect to put some type of collateral down.

Another question I have about Gen Con (or tournaments in general). I have a few of those army mats. Do you bring those for tournies or do people do it more "old school" with the cardboard where it says home, horde, etc? Or does it matter?

it doesn't really matter. everyone does something different.

just be aware that what is in the official rulebook (and not printed on a mat) is what matters.
