I just wanted to throw this out there. I was playing with DT and his friend B, who happens to be new, and my girlfriend who is not new exactly but is still in the stage where rolling the dice is all the comes to mind. Any who both of these people got turned off by dice just because of really bad rolls on them and I think its a bummer because it will change their strats around them forever.

With B he rolled something like 5 or 6 melee/saves on the dragon staff in a row and now wont touch it and and with her, she rolled 3 disasters in a row with the minor terrain and says it ruined that game and is a cursed die. Its funny but honestly its crappy for them that they wont use these awesome things because their first experience was no good.

Anyone else have anything going on like this? I mean to say the averages can be misleading very badly and sometimes quite the opposite.

My minor terrains invariably roll disaster as well. Pat's minor terrains seem to roll magic about 90% of the time. Nobody knows how she does that...

Anyhoo, those types of rolls (both good and bad streaks) seem to happen with regularity. That's what you get for playing a dice game Surprised

My dragons always seem to roll belly. Every time Brad brings out a dragon with blue breath, Brad always get a breath against my army. Usually when it's at 8, and he can steal it.

On the other hand, my Feral mages seem to roll a lot more magic than average. Ask anyone that has played against me.

Its true that dice can roll funny for anyone. I was just thinking about how a person new to a specific die gets extreme rolls and how it will alter their idea of it.

I taught a couple friends how to play last week, and I had them playing each other (with me moderating) for the first game. I had been telling them how awesome magic could be, but no matter what, neither of them could generate more than 4 magic results in a single roll (so at th end of the game they were both unimpressed). So I joined in the next game, and wiped the floor with them, using magic.

On the topic of terrible rolls, one of the games we played that day (a later game) involved lots of magic and lots of dragon summoning- my friend summoned two dragons on my army, only to have BOTH of them roll belly. I laughed, and in response, rolled THREE melee icons, total, from my melee-heavy army. So no dragons were killed in the making of this story.

I've found that invariably when trying to recruit players, there are 2 types: those who finally gave in to your rampant insistance that they try the game, and those who are genuinely interested and intrigued by the dice. Of group 1, only about 1 in 10 will really get into the game no matter how good they roll. Of group 2 , usually 50 percent will like the game enough to play it more often no matter how bad they roll. Personal observation Cool .

It alters me. I tend to not do dragons because they always crap out on me. I can summon three dragons and one will roll treasure, one will fly away and one will roll belly. waste of magic...

And I ignore magic almost entirely because I can roll an entire 36-point army of nothing but Undead mages and come up with a total of one point of magic. (I've done it. On multiple occasions.)

If I based the dice I play on how well they roll for me, I'd play Magic: the Gathering.

When I roll dragons it seems i only get wings. I agree with Cliff I rarely spend magic on dragons. Hell this happened last night when I was teaching my sister how to play. I summoned the dragon out to actually play out a dragon phase with her and haha i rolled wings. Not only that my sister actually beat me Razz .

I used to think that Drakes were better than Wyrms until I actually used one. The first time a Wing came up, I vowed to never use another Drake unless I had to (i.e., didn't have enough of the color I wanted).

Or, you could have the kind of luck I have against, specifically, Dproman. Ask Dave how many times I've erased his entire army with arrows. Or what a dragon looks like when I roll it against him. (Fifteen consecutive tails on a drake and you don't care when it flies away at the end....)
